Another fast-paced thriller from Cussler, et. al. I actually quite enjoyed this one about a potential pandemic flu outbreak and the rush for a vaccine (this was written about the time of the H1N1 flu scare). Of course, there is an evil Chinese triad in the mix and the usual supporting characters from Cussler. As always, I liked the lead-in to the novel - this time about a whaling expedition in 1848 that becomes ill with a flu-like outbreak and their cure by native medicine in Micronesia. I believe this is the first NUMA files novel that I've read but I'm sure it won't be the last.

Clive has done a wonderful job of crafting this spellbinding thriller.

Mixing science, technology, history, into the storytelling to create
a unique blend of High-tech, Bio-tech, Multinational thriller, with
a romantic historical whaling turn of the century back story, which isn't
a side note but a key clue to the outcome of the story.

The highly detailed 514 pages, leave little to be desired, but it is not
perfect some licence has been taken, but its required to reach the final
desired effect.

Others refer to this book as " Filled with action, heroics, and apparently
plausible science, which makes for great summer escape reading" I have to agree.
