This is the first book in the 5 book Acadia series. What a great partnership in the authors Oke, and Bunn! Great authors in their own rights. This series has everything-lost family, lost loves, war, separation, hate, 3 countries:US, Canada, and England. The historyk is awesome and alive! A time when people were torn apart by ancient hatreds. Hatreds only God could heal.

Book 1 of 3 in the Song of Acadia series. This is the first book by Oke that I have read. I really enjoyed it and I'm looking forward to finishing this series to read others by her.
I do not know very much about Canadian history so I can't say how accurate the historical background is. I do know about the God, the Bible, and prayer. This book was entertaining and very inspirational.

If you like the Love comes softly serious by Janette Oke then you will like this story. I love period stories. About two young women their lives shadowed by nations that are in conflict, but they begin a friendship that will propel them on a journey from which they will never turn back.
I am a fan of both T. Davis Bunn and Janette Oke. This one is more Oke than Bunn, I think.
This is the story of two women who belong to two different cultures but yet have become very good friends, almost soul sisters. Fate deals them a very hard hand, and through love and faith, they are able to survive.
I had never learned about the history of this region and about the Acadians. I was glad to be able to learn it through a historical novel!
The characters are very real and are very well presented throughout the story. The plot also flows very well and the story remains interesting til the end.

I absolutely loved this book. I read all the sequels including the ones that T. Davis Bunn wrote with his wife showing future generations of these characters.
I would call this a lazy read. Not a push to read on, but the story is nice. A romantic, historical story of forbidden friendship. You don't really get to the end of the story because there is a sequel, but it didn't leave me having to get the next book. I think for people really into romantic stories, they would be very happy with this...not romance as in love between a man and woman, but a charming romance between friends.
From the book cover:
Two young women, their lives shadowed by nations in conflict, begin a friendship that will propel them on a journey from which they can never turn back.....
The year was 1753, and the lines of separation were firmly drawn. The French had named the region Acadia, their "beloved home." When the British came soon after, they battled with the French on the new continent as they had in Europe for centuries.
The settlers of Acadia were either French or English, and though their villages might be but a stone's throw apart, most could go an entire lifetime without speaking to someone from the other side.

Very good reading. One of a series.
The first book in Janette Oke and T. Davis Bunn's Song of Acadia series. The whole series is amazing! This book chronicles the meeting and friendship of two women--one of British heritage and the other of French heritage shortly before the British expulsion of the French from Acadia. A really cool look into history from a Christian fiction perspective.
First in the Song of Acadia Series, I had a difficult time putting it down.
Enthusiatically looked forward to the other's in this series.
Wonderful book
