This book was a real struggle to finish! In the first place, the story line jumps back and forth from 1814 to 1837 every couple of pages. And the characters are in their 40's now! (although they still look like they're in their 20's on the inside cover art). I just don't like a book where SO MUCH time has passed since the beginning of the realtionship...too much water under the bridge. And Pippin is now described as "matronly" and Dash as a "drunkard". How romantic (not!)

This was quite an interesting read. I actually love Elizabeth Boyle and have been anxiously awaiting "Pippen's" story after reading all her previous books.
The book was written very well. I actually liked the flashbacks between the different periods. I found that it also filled in the gaps her previous books left open. (although it can stand alone, I think it would be better to read them in order because so much of the content relates back to scenes from earlier stories)
Having said that, I don't think I liked the hero's character any more. He "fixes" himself (some what) at the end, but I enjoy heros with more hidden redeemingable qualities to start with. I feel like Pippin's mom in that she could've done better than him.:) - Especially having to have waited so long in her life to have her happily ever after.
But.... If you have read the previous books, definately read this.
And.... If you enjoy reading books with older heroines or / and almost unredeemable heros, this would be a good book for you too.

I was surprised to find that Pippin and Dash's story took so long to come about. I was a little dissapointed that they had to wait so long to be together but in the long run Im really glad I read the book and they finally get their "happily ever after".

A real letdown. These characters are in every other book and the buildup was almost unbearable. Every book I wanted their story to be next. What a horrible disappointment to find that 20+ years have passed, the characters now in their 40's and him a drunk and a wastrel. I'm in my 40's and still feel plenty young but I thought after all the buildup in the other books, to have them with adult children, drinking problems, bloated faces - yuck.

After reading about Pippin's two cousins, Felicity and Thalia, it was a treat to finally read Pippin's and Dash's story. It is 20 years later and they meet again. It is a most enjoyable read.

I really enjoy this book as it was a story that needed telling. I'm very glad that it included flashbacks so that the parts of Pippin and Dash's story was truly complete. Elizabeth Boyle tells a story that feels as if it could be real. Just love her books!
