I love the In Death series but I found this book lacking compared to the previous few books. Not as much action in this one but still well worth reading. This series is best when read in order as one picks up sometime just weeks after the previous book.

One more in the great series set in mid 21st century. Exciting characters, some fun , and also some romance along with the murder mysteries being solved by Lt. Eve Dallas

I love Robb's "in Death" series. This one is excellent. Although I will admit that I figured out "whodunnit" rather early on - earlier than I usually manage with Robb's books. Despite this, I enjoyed this one A LOT!

I absolutely love the "...IN DEATH" series, and MEMORY IN DEATH was no exception. It's nearly Christmas 2059 in New York, and Eve and Roarke are planning another large holiday party. As Eve deals with her job with the police department, she suddenly gets a blast from her past.

Trudy Lombard, who served as Eve's foster mother for six months right after she was found bloody and alone in Dallas, Texas, has come to her office--supposedly to catch up on old times. When Eve panics and throws her out, Trudy makes her true motives known when she visits Roarke at his office, and demands two million dollars to keep quiet about Eve's troubled past. Roarke refuses, threatens Trudy into leaving them alone, and advises her that her best course of action would be to return, quietly, to Texas.

That, of course, isn't the end of Trudy Lombard. When Eve decides to face Trudy one last time, to insist that she'll get no monetary gain from either her or her husband, they find Trudy dead in her hotel room--and her distraught son, Bobby, and his wife, Zana, are both horrified and heartbroken.

Eve sets out to find out who killed her former foster mother, while battling with the horrendous memories that surface from Trudy's sudden reappearance into her life. As she struggles to balance her home life with Roarke with the death of a woman who only added to her pain and misery all those years ago, Eve is once again faced with her past, and forced to overcome it.

MEMORY IN DEATH is another winner in J.D. Robb's series. You don't want to miss the heartbreak, persistence, and tenacity of this latest thriller!

An absolute dog. If I hadn't been stuck at the creek on a float with no other book there's no way I'd have read this unlikely, clumsily written piece of detective fiction. It's set in some future time, has odd descriptions of 'new' electronic devices, a heavy dose of heavy-handed feminism, a heroine who glories in her independence but ends up using her rich husband's resources every time she turns around. Bad enough I read the thing - now I'm writing about it. Ugh.

J.D. Robb has done it again. What a terrific thriller!

A blast from the past for Eve Dallas. She was fostered as a child in Texas with a crazy, brutal woman (Trudy) who has a young son who did his best to help Eve when he could get away with it without his mother knowing. Out of the blue, Trudy shows up in Eve's office. When Eve, kicks her out, she tries to shake Roarke down for $2 million. Sometime following this, Trudy is murdered and it is Eve's job to track down the murderer. She does a spectacular job of unraveling the clues to unearth the killer.

Great book from page one!

I loved this In Death book because it was the first that gave you a bit of Eve and Roarke's relationship during some down time - Christmas Eve. Eve can't get any work done, so you get them hanging around their beautiful house - talking and other things....

I love powerful Lt. Eve Dallas and how the complex New York City crimes are solved. If you don't wanna bite her husband, don't read these books! Nora Robert's best writing is as JD Robb in this "In Death" series of some 30+ stories to date. I collect all of the JD Robb books, but skip the Roberts, whose stories are not as tight as those about Lt. Eve Dallas - ass kicker! If the future of New York City is like this, I fear these futuristic killers who are sneaky and complex.

Eve Dallas is one tough cop. She's got no problem dealing with a holiday reveler in a red suit who plunges thirty-seven stories and gives new meaning to the term "sidewalk Santa." But when she gets back to the station and Trudy Lombard shows up, it's all Eve can do to hold it together. Instantly, she's thrown back into the past, to the days when she was a vulnerable, traumatized girl-trapped in foster care with the twisted woman who now sits in front of her, smiling.

Trudy claims she just wanted to see how Eve was doing. But Eve's husband, Roarke, suspects otherwise-and his suspicions prove correct when Trudy arrives at his office, demanding money in exchange for keeping the ugly details of his wife's childhood a secret. Barely restraining himself, Roarke shows her the door-and makes it clear that she'd be wise to get out of New York and never bother him or his wife again.

But just a few days later, Trudy's found on the floor of her hotel room, a mess of bruises and blood. A cop to the core, Eve is determined to solve the case, if only for the sake of Trudy's bereaved son. Unfortunately, Eve is not the only one to have suffered at this woman's hands, and she and Roarke will follow a circuitous, dangerous path to find out who turned this victimizer into a victim. Whoaaaaaaaaaaa keep em coming J.D.Robb (Nora) excellent reading!

Not the best of the series but still good reading. Eve's abusive former foster mother comes to NY to put the squeeze on Eve and Roark. After they refuse her demands, she is found murdered in her hotel room. The murderer was pretty evident, at least to me, from the get-go. The best part of the book was finding out more about Eve's early life.

Eve Dallas is a very tough cop, but some of the hard shell crumbles when she comes face to face with her childhood's past tormentor in the shape of a foster "mother." A novel in the futuristic series. Lots of sex and violence. Eve Dallas is one tough cop. It should take more than a semming ordinary middle-aged lady to make her fall apart. But when the lady is Trudy Lombard, all bets are off. Just seeing Trudy at the station plunges Eve back to the days when she was a vulnerable, traumatized young girl---trapped in foster care with the twisted woman who now sits smiling in front of her.

From Publishers Weekly: "After clashing with clones and killers in last year's Origin in Death, New York City police lieutenant Eve Dallas ("Her eyes were the color of good, aged whiskey and were long like the rest of her. And like the rest of her, they were all cop") settles back into a more conventional mystery. In December 2059, a mysterious woman shows up in Eve's office claiming to be her "mama." It's Trudy Lombard, the cruel foster mom who took nine-year-old Eve in after Eve killed her abusive father. Trudy made Eve take cold baths and locked her in closets, among other torments, and now Trudy wants Eve to pay $2 million to keep her past a secret. Readers of the series will know how Roarke, Eve's rich, deadly husband, handles the situation; he tosses Trudy out on her ear. When Trudy is found murdered the next day, it's up to Eve to catch the killer and prove that neither she nor Roarke was behind the bludgeoning. All the action takes place over Christmas, and Eve, being Eve, complains about the foolishness of the holiday, but Roarke et al. continue to slowly teach Eve the virtues of love, family and friendship. This is number 22 in a series that still manages to feel fresh. (Jan.)" Copyright © Reed Business Information, a division of Reed Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

It's just another day at the precinct for Lt. Eve Dallas, until a woman from her past shows up. Eve remembers Trudy Lombard. She was Eve's first foster parent...and she made Eve's life hell. Trudy says she just wants to visit, but neither Eve nor Roarke believe her. When Trudy visit's Roarke's office, she threatens to tell everyone about Eve's past unless he pays her two million dollars. Eve and Roarke talk it over and decide to confront her. But when they arrive at her hotel, Trudy is dead. Now Eve must investigate to find out who wanted Trudy dead.

This is another very good mystery from J.D. Robb. There were only a couple of suspects in this book. I just couldn't figure out the motive. My rating: 4.5 Stars.
