This is possibly one of *the* worst books I have ever read. Great premise - terrible storyline and execution. Not only is the writing marginal, but the author re-uses the same hokey imagery over and over "quicksilver child", "thin hair, held back with barettes". There is little redeeming about the characters, and the subplots are simply unbelievable. Don't waste a credit or your time on this one. If I were the publisher, I'd be embarrassed.

Sorry. This one was a disappointment. I quickly tired of characters who made bad decisions and then proceeded to compound the mistakes.

I enjoyed this CD set very much. The story of how a single moment and a single decision can change the course of your life, of many lives. Very good.

Adequate. I don't think I would have finished this book if I didn't have the audio version. As it was, I'm not convinced it wasn't a waste of time. Lots of potential in the story, but I feel like the author just didn't try hard enough.

Well read version of the popular book. Abridged to 11 hours to fit on 6 CDs, but far more detailed than the film version.

Very good audio cd. It is abridged but it is 9 cds,11 hours (not 6 cds as another reviewer stated), so the story does not seem chopped.

This is an awesome story, tugs at your heart. It was interesting to see how lives had changed over almost a decade from one decision made under emotional stress. Well written story, and well read by Martha Plimpton.

I listened to the story rather than reading it, and I didn't read the reviews before I listened to it. I am surprised by the negative reviews the book got because I thought the story was a decent "chick lit". I didn't even realize that I was listening to an abridged version of the story because the box contained 9 CDs. Maybe the book was too long for some people.

I listened to the abridged audiobook of this novel, and I think it should have been abridged again.
Reminiscent of Ayn Rand, this story is fraught with interminable ruminations of guilt, regrets, bad decisions, and memories, with so many unnecessary details that makes you wish that they would just get to the point.
This could have been a great story, and were it not for my curiosity as to how it ended, I would have abandoned it much earlier. The ending was not completely disappointing, but there was so much middle to get through.
