The best books about war are often the memoirs of men who fought in them. I can't believe I missed reading this one until this year. The books follows a company of men from training through the end of the war and beyond. Also included are stories of their loves and relationships.
I place it right up there with "Company Commander" by Charles MacDonald. In fact, MacDonald states, "No one has written a book like this for World War II or any other war. A brilliant concept."
