slightly disappointing.the author insists that it is not the sequal to Tales of the City, i tend to disagree. not as well written as Tales but amusing in places. i must be getting old as the sex seemed over the top and more than enough.
this book finds Michael still alive but HIV positive. he is much older and still in SF. he is married to a much younger man.most of the whole cast of charchters make an appearance at some point including Mrs. Madrigal, now in her late 80's. Mother love, gay love, friend love are the main points of the book, just as in the past.

Maupin's title character is a mid-fifties gay man in San Francisco who has outlived many of his contemporaries, and who is now established in a May-December marriage with a younger man. Maupin sometimes provides TMI about the couple's sex life, but also peoples his book with richly and sympathetically drawn characters, both gay and straight.
