I found the book too long. If it's supposed to represent the experience of being middle-aged, I think it only represents a very elite, spoiled group who have wasted much of their lives up until this point, are unhappy in their marriages and relationships, and so find themselves disappointed with life. It was hard to sympathize with the characters.

This excellent writing and plot kept my attention from start to finish. The structure of the book was fascinating and I really got into the characters. I think this is one of her best books.

Although this was published a decade ago, it reminded me of what the american dream and mid-life crisis can bring. What is interesting is that Adam had such and impact on people that really didn't know him
