I am so glad we have another mysterious place to visit now that Harris is done writing Bon Temps books. I liked the slow reveal of just what the different citizens of Midnight, Texas are, and I did not guess "who done it" before the murderer was revealed. I find the idea of a tiny town, a slightly magical pawnshop, and the endpapers of the book itself charming.

The story starts out a little rough, with the descriptions and all, but if you can get past the first few chapters it gets good. I really liked how a couple of the characters were from the Aurora Teagarden and Lily Bard series as I enjoyed both series as well. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.

What fun this was! I enjoyed it much more than the Snookie series. The characters were all likeable and although the town held alot of dark mystery about it I kinda found myself wanting to go to the cafe and just sit and have the daily special while I checked out the cafe regulars, ...kinda. I'll be back for more of the Midnight Texas series that's for sure. I'm hooked!!

I enjoyed this book quite a bit. It took me a couple of chapters to sort everything out, but after that it flowed nicely.

You need to have all three books. The story is basically spread across all three books. It starts off rather slow, but then you realize that the story is really about gradually discovering what all of the inhabitants of Midnight, TX really are, and it's definitely not normal folks. It's a really good story, incredibly well-written, with interlacing storylines. And it does have its moments of action that are pretty amazing, especially the grand finale.
It's set in the universe of Sookie Stackhouse and Sookie is referenced at one point. Some have complained about it, but I thought it was rather cool and a good addition to the Stackhouse universe.

Midnight, Texas is a small town the attracts the paranormal, the unusual, and those that have something to hide. Every resident has at least one secret. The inhabitants are both open-minded and understand the need for secrets.
While I was interested from page 1, this is a slower paced book. It was at times a bit too descriptive. It's similar to the Sookie books in that regard. What made it interesting (and not boring for me), was the switching narratives. Bobo, Fiji, and Manfred were the 3 main characters. I liked the mystery. The residents do take care of their own.
By the end of the book, I mostly knew who was a supernatural and who was completely "normal." And I have suspicions for the rest.

First in a new series by Charlaine Harris and true to her writing, the characters are odd and charming in a lot of cases, and just a fun read. I enjoyed it and am looking forward to more about this little Texas town. If you liked the Sookie Stackhouse books, you'll probably like this too.
It seem that some people liked this book but I couldn't even finish it..The beginning was slow and very descriptive ..I am sure farther along into the book it probably mattered where the houses in the town are located but I quit reading long before I found out..If its import and draw a map like a lot of book do, don't waste pages writing about it. Her development of the characters was just as bad. It is a very distinct change in writing style, a lot of it being a narrative, at least in the beginning & thats as far asI got..ugh.
