This book was decent, not spectacular in any way. I enjoyed the characters, but they did seem to be a bit cartoonish at times. There were many funny lines and scenes but it seemed a bit forced on occasion, like the author was trying extremely hard to convey something she thought was hilarious. It started out promising, slowed down, and then rushed to a conclusion designed to tease you into buying the sequel. While the plot was a mish-mash of various genre conventions, I did enjoy the dialogue for the most part and the characters were interesting. While I'm not rushing out to buy the next one, I'd read it if given it, if only to see what happens next. Try it out if you like vamp fiction.

The worse book of 2005! The story line was inconsistant, many editing errors, to the point that I wanted to scream! The thing that makes me so mad about this book is I wanted it to be good, the blurp about it sounded great. The author tried too hard and the editor was asleep through most of the book.

I liked some things about this book, but other details made me nuts. References to Christmas are just tossed in with nothing to do with the story what-so-ever. I suspect it was just done in order to market the book for its December release date as were some of the historic references. It is almost as though this book doesn't know what it wants to be - historic, vampire, romance, or story about the joys of killing (though not gorey). I was disappointed, but not so much that I wouldn't try another book by this author. I'd describe it as "so-so" while showing some promise from a first-time novelist.

Melange of paranormal elements here- vampires, past lives, zombies, witches, fey folk, magic spells etc. However, the elements never seem to gel. The reader is told over and over about how conflicted the main character is concerning her new dietary preferences, yet she never seems to register conflict. Other characters are poorly laid out and it is difficult to understand their motivation. Plot issues abound- mostly in that the author seems to be trying to do too much in the confines of one novel. Clumsy hints and poor attempts to be coy with information give away plot elements that are meant to be suspenseful. This is apparently the author's first book(according to the dedication), and I have read and enjoyed her later books, so the issues seem to be rookie errors.
