Started a bit slow for me. I almost put it down but the crime story intrigued me so I hung in there. Once I got past all the police politics surrounding a big case that involves big names and rich people, the story got much better. In fact once I was past the politics I couldn't put it down! The story was great and had a few twist and turns to keep me on my seat. Also being a gamer I loved the D&D references in it.

John Sandford's acclaimed PREY novels have plunged teaders into the darkest recesses of the criminal mind. Now his brilliant dective, Lucas Davenport, knows he has met match. For his newest nemesis is more intelligent-more deadly-then he has tracked before. A kidnapper, a violator, a pure, wanton killer who knows more about mind games than Lucas himself.-+

What can I say? I love John Sanford's Prey books and this one didn't let me down.

A Lucas Davenport novel. Lucas goes after a mental patient who has kidnapped a mother and 2 daughters. As it says on the cover, "Grip you by the throat thrills, a hell of a ride." Parts of it are intense and you don't want to put it down.
Helpful Score: 1
Not the strongest one, but a good solid Prey book, funny and suspenseful. So far, the only one made into a movie which I thought odd given the extra level of violence. There also seemed to be much more focus on the antagonist in this one than Lucas or the other police.

He knows Lucas Davenport's mind. His every move. His every weakness...
John Sandford's acclaimed Prey novels have plunged readers into the darkest recesses of the criminal mind. Now his brilliant detective, Lucas Davenport, knows he has met his match. For his newest nemesis is more intelligent-and more deadly-than any he has tracked before. A kidnapper. A violator. A pure, wanton killer who knows more about mind games than Lucas himself.

A book that will keep you turning the pages just a fast as you can read them.
-#7 of the Davenport Series-This wasnt bad. It was a bit too violent. I am glad the ending was semi-happy. This thriller had good suspense. Although, I think Sandford has Davenport high on a pedestal. He always seems to ride the fine line of police work. He solves the crime, gets the bad guy but his tactics are somewhat shady. Not in a bad way. But most crime stories I have read, the cops are always scrutinized and put under a lot of pressure to get the bad guy but in an unreasonable amount of time. And while they are pursuing the lawbreaker, they must follow police procedure to the T. Not Davenport. He has a lot of power in his roll. He finally asks Weather to marry him. He was working up the nerve thru the whole book. But the last pageexposes his fear.

Book 7 in the Prey series. I've enjoyed them all...
Detective Lucas Davenport is after a wanton killer, who is more intelligent than his usual killers.

Excellent read. Super ending.
One in the Lucas Davenport police procedural series. Gripping, fast-paced. Well-plotted. Good characters, absorbing read.
excellent series
Excellent story again!!!!
I really like John Sandford but this one really kept me on edge and excited. Davenport is really a person you would love to have on your case. Humor is alwaays present but so are the crimes and it keeps you guessing. Lots of good characters.
Love this series - read 4 in a row!
John Sanford at his best. In addition to the mystery, living in the upper midwest it is always fun to recognize the streets, areas, and the colloquialisms of our northern neighbors!
Typical Lucas Davenport crime thriller. Once you start reading, it is hard to put down.
"Run for it." It was raining when psychiatrist Andi Manette left the parent-teacher conference with her two young daughters, and she was distracted. She barely noticed the red van parked near her, barely noticed the van door slide open as they dashed to the car. The last thing she did notice was the hand reaching out for her and the voice from out of the past - and then the three of them were gone. Hours later, Deputy Chief Lucas Davenport stood in the parking lot, a bloody shoe in his hand, the ground stained pink around him, and knew, instinctively, that this would be one of the worst cases he'd ever been on. A man who could steal children . . . With an urgency born of dread, Lucas presses the attack, while in an isolated farmhouse, Andi Manette does the same, summoning all her skills to battle an obsessed captor. She knows the man who has taken her and her daughters, knows there is a chink in his armor, if only she can find it. But for both her and Davenport, time is already running out.
Another good Lucas Davenport story. Has he met his match this time, his nemesis is more intelligent and more deadly than any he has tracked before.
John Sandford's Prey series. I've read them all and they are great reads.
I love the Prey series of books. They have great characters and great storylines. One of my favorite authors, and favorite series.
Definitely a good read.
My favorite Prey novel yet, this edition gives you more of a cat-and-mouse game. Every small piece of this mystery could provide a break in the case - which makes this book always interesting and hard to stop reading. Unlike other Prey novels, fewer murders and more suspense.
This novel, as with all the Prey novels is fast paced, exciting and a real page turner. I love Lucas Davenport and hope he lives forever. John Sandford can do no wrong in my eyes.
Great book - a good addition to the series.
Another great in this series. I find myself holding my breath at the end of all of his books and this one is no exception! Loved it and look forward to the next. Super easy read.
great series
Intense reader
Yet another good entry in the "Prey" series.
good resd
The sixth in the Prey series, it's another fast-paced thriller. A wealthy woman and her two daughters have been kidnapped; her husband and father have pulled strings to get Lucas Davenport on the team. You know what you're getting with one of Sandford's books and this one is no different. Maybe a little uneven in the pacing as the team gets what seem like definitive clues and there's still half the book to go. A little variation in the formula since this is a crazy kidnapper instead of a crazy serial killer.
Lucas Davenport knows that he has met his match. For his newest nemesis is more intelligent and more deadly than any he has tracked before. A kidnapper. A violater. A pure, wanton killer who knows more about mind games than Lucas himself.
Great book
Davenport is chasing a real "Weirdo" in this one. Typical Sandford book
I founnd it hard to put down.

every book in this series is exciting and enjoyable
Definitely a grip-you-by-the-throat-thriller!!
Lucas Davenport realizes, when he sees the first body, that he has finally met his match--and maybe his nemesis. A kidnapper. A violator. A murderer who knows more about mind games than Lucas himself.
GREAT !!!
Lucas Davenport knows he has met his match. His newest nemesis is more intelligent and more deadly than any he has tracked before. This person is a kidnapper, a violator, and a wanton killer who knows mind games.
Sanford's Prey books are gripping. I highly recommend it.
