An interesting book by a researcher who knows more than you thought possible about what makes people eat what (and how much) they do. There were interesting insights to how his findings would be applicable to helping you eat less (or more, if that's what you need). I think I am a little more health-conscious than the author, and less agreeable to the tricky things companies do to get us to buy and eat their products. I thought he was too forgiving of too many tactics for my taste, but the objective information was very interesting.

I was actually surprised to learn a couple of things in this book that I didn't already know, but I think I was hoping for more. Breezily written, easy to get through, with food for thought. :-)

This book shares the surprising findings from many of Cornell's 'Food & Brand Lab' studies. It does more to explain the psychology behind American eating habits and lays out the external factors that contribute to the food choices and individual makes, rather than explicitly telling you how to eat less or improve your diet. However, it helps one better understand what influences our eating habits and has some suggestions on how you can make the science of eating work for you! Really fascinating and an easy read directed at the common person who doesn't necessarily have a background in food science, etc. It was hard to put this book down!

This book will literally change the way you think about your next meal. Food psychologist Brian Wansink revolutionizes our awareness of how much, what, and why we're eating;often without realizing it. His findings will astound you.

Can the size of your plate really influence your appetite?
Why do you eat more when you dine with friends?
What hidden persuaders are used by restaurants and supermarkets to get us to overeat?
How does music or the color of the room influence how much;and how fastwe eat?
How can we mindlessly los instead of gain up to twenty pounds in the coming year?

Starting today, you can make more mindful, enjoyable, and healthy choices at the dinner table, in the supermarket, at the office wherever you satisfy your appetite.

excellent read - not a diet text, but an eye opening book about why we eat the way we do. It will make you see the many ways you sabotage your eating choices dozens of times each day - and can help you to become more mindful of advertising, marketing and our own brainwashing about food. Don't start a new diet without reading this!
