This is my first time reading this author - it was a fabulous book! I found myself crying my way through the last pages and then laughing that I was crying while reading a vampire novel! I will definately be searching out more books by this author. I was so suprise to find out the book was set in the late 1800's!

I really liked this book. Pru is a young woman who is dying of cancer. Her quest for a cure makes her obsessed with finding the Holy Grail. It also brings her search to the attention of other people...some good...some bad. Chapel has been sent by the church to help. He had no idea he would find his salvation. The romance between Chapel and Pru was wonderfully written.

I think that Ms. Smith is really an unsung talent in her genre. Her stories are fantastical yet somewhat down to earth. I read the other two books in this series first and then this one, and have laughed, cried, and cheered for those beloved vampires. Can't wait to see if she writes about Reign and Temple...I'd be first in line for those books!

I actually hate giving this book 3 stars because I whole heartedly believe in the potential of the series. The world-building, the setting, the mythology use-it's all very intriguing. But this book fell short.

Chapel became a vampire when he drank from a mystical cup known as the Blood Grail, having mistaken it for the Holy Grail. Six hundred years later, in the year 1899, Pru Ryeland is searching for the Holy Grail in hopes of curing her terminal illness. Chapel fears that what she will actually find is the Blood Grail and that she will become cursed as he believes he is cursed. But as he begins to fall in love with Pru, his belief in his own soul-less nature is challenged.

The use of history and mythology is fun, interesting, and well put together. The time period and setting is rich and unique, and in fact is one of the few things that sets this book apart from other paranormal writings.

Chapel is a surprisingly sexy, if somewhat frustrating character. He is loyal, determined, and fun. His love for Pru is heartbreaking.

First of all, Pru's terminal illness is-it's never given an exact name, so I assume uterine cancer-the biggest plot point/conflict in the book. I am not at all making light of cancer but it's presence in the story is,dare I say, drawn out to the point of dull? We expect her to be saved, obviously, whether she finds the Holy Grail or becomes a vampire. But it takes THE ENTIRE BOOK. We are forced to watch Chapel hem, haw, and struggle with his own self-pity while the love of his life suffers unnecessary pain.

And Pru's cancer is a seriously painful one. I don't know how well Smith researched the disease but I happen to know from what I've witnessed that 1)Even early stage cancer patients are often exhausted, suffer from easy bruising, and tend to have compromised immune systems, and 2) The physical reality of advanced uterine cancer does not usually allow for any kind of comfortable sexual relationship. So the fact that Pru is so active right up until the very end is seriously problematic.

Despite all of this, I still have high hopes for the series. While I did not care for the terminal illness plot-line, I enjoyed Smith's style and imagination.

This book is more a historical romance than a vampire book. Even as a romance book, there's very little tension or build-up or passion. The characters are very flat. The book goes back and forth between her feelings about dying from her cancer and his disgust with himself for being a vampire. After like the fifth chapter of this, one gets tired of reading the same angst over and over again. Of course everything gets neatly wrapped up at the end since he has a way to save her from her cancer. If you've read Kresley Cole, JR Ward, or Jeanine Frost, you should know the Brotherhood of Blood is nothing like those books and you'll be disappointed.

I did not enjoy this book, I found it to be very slow, at times dragging along- I actually put it down for more than a month and picked it back up again only because I had nothing else to read. It was a struggle for me to get through to the end....yawn. HOWEVER- I did finish Be Mine Tonight and because I really liked the premise of the story (Holy/Blood Grail etc)-and because I already had the next 3 books in the series just sitting on my shelf- I continued on. I am very happy to say that the series gets much better! I have finished the first 4 and have ordered book 5, Night After Night, from Amazon (which I very seldom do). So if you can see your way through the sluggishness of Be Mine Tonight, the rest of the Brotherhood of the Blood series is well worth the read!!

I had an abundance of credits and decided to try it out. I remained on the verge of tears throughout the majority of the book. Pru is funny, honest, and one of the things I like so much about this is the complete lack of silly misunderstanding. The characters are strong and speak their mind and refuse to let petty misunderstandings affect their time together. After reading this I called three of my friends told them I had a book for them and immediately took it over. They are still thanking me.
Have already ordered books 2 & 3 of the series if they are close to as good as this...... heaven.

This was a really good book. I have never before read anything by Kathryn Smith and it will not be the last. This book was different from your typical love stories. It flowed really well and the characters were decent. Chapel just sounded dreamy and Pru was just his right fit.

Solid start to a new series of vampires. I like the twist of their being Templar Knights.

Good stuff with the search for the Holy Grail spurring them on.

Can't wait for the next in line.

1899 dying English woman meets vampire who falls in love with her. Not a lot of period detail but sweet development of love story and interesting version of vampire mythology. Sometimes the dialogue was a bit too modern which is jarring. The setup of the future books was generally good but kind of abruptly cuts off about 3/4 of the way through the book - then the future stars leave the scene for good. I know she didn't want to write too much future story into this book but there was so much about them in the first 250 pages of the book and then to end without any resolution was rather annoying to me.

I will probably read others from the series but I'm in no big rush.

A poignant love story. Not enough action, but the developing relationship between Chapel and Prudence was a sensual feast.

The book was OK. I did not relate to the characters. I felt that the medical events & attitudes seemed a little too advanced for the time--and the heroine was markedly robust for someone supposedly in the advanced stages of cancer.

If another in the series happened to come my way I would read it . . .but I will not seek them out.

Good vampire story. Be ready with a pile of kleenex for the last part of the book!

Prudence's young life is slipping away and she seeks the deliverance of the Grail--unaware that the cost of her search could be her soul. Chapel sought the Grail six hundred years ago, but found a hellish cup of damnation instead. Can he offer her which she most desires-the sensuous "gift" of forever that is both rapture and a curse: his immortal kiss?

I am called Chapel . . .

For nearly six centuries I have roamed the night, a mortal man no longer. Would that I could undo the past -- when I entered the sanctuary of the Knights Templar to wrest from them the Holy Grail, only to discover the chalice I raised to my lips was not the sacred relic but a hellish cup of damnation. Now I shun the day and all things human, driven by an ungodly thirst. And yet...

Never have I known a maiden the like of Prudence Ryland, whose beauty and spirit awaken a heart I feared long cold and dead. But her young life is slipping away, and she also seeks the deliverance of the Grail -- unaware that the cost of her search could be her soul. I must help Prudence, for in six hundred years, no other woman has stirred my passions so. But dare I tender to my beloved that which she most desires -- the sensuous "gift" of forever that is both rapture and a curse: my immortal kiss?
