Helpful Score: 1
This isn't your typical audio book; it's a 1-disc scripted enactment of the Stephen King novella, running time 1.5 hours. Rather than a narrator reading the book, there are several actors and sound effects telling the story. It's much like an old-fashioned radio drama.
The intro, a plug for the sound technology, says to put on headphones to get the full 3-D effect. I listened to it in the car and it seemed quiet and distant at times, even with the volume turned up to full. Sometimes the characters sounded like they were shouting into aluminum cans. The listening experience would be better using headphones, or in a quiet room at home.
Good story, of course - classic Stephen King with monsters that come out of the unknown.
