Personally, I didn't get through the first two chapters. The plot sounded intriguing, but I was turned off by the language.

Interesting book. It would have been much better if edited to 300 pages instead of almost 500. Frequently, a sentence would have worked better and cleaner than several paragraphs. It's a 1999 book, so perhaps the author learned this. The characters are interesting. The plot lines are sometimes pretty farfetched. Good to read a book centered on professional women!

Don't miss this book if you enjoy a good, fast-paced read with a legal bent to it. The review from Kirkus Associates does a much better job of describing the book than I can, so I'll leave that to them. Had never read any of Lisa Scottoline's novels before, but after finishing MISTAKEN IDENTITY, I immediately ordered her previous novel, ROUGH JUSTICE.
Ms. Scottoline's characters are real, and it doesn't take long to realize that she writes from personal experience and observation. She has been described as the "female John Grisham," but that description doesn't do her justice. Like Grisham, her past legal experience has paid off with her ability to create some very believable characters.
(...)it's worth the visit to learn a bit more about the author. You'll find a message board and online reviews there as well. That's where I found out that MISTAKEN IDENTY has evidently been optioned for development into a television series.
Looking forward to reading all of her previous novels.

A legal thriller about a woman accused of murdering her lover, a highly decorated police detective. A book I couldn't put down!

Another page-turner by Lisa Scottoline. Be sure to read this before reading "Dead Ringer." Dead Ringer is the sequel to Mistaken Identity. They are both awesome books.
