This is the second book in the Chicago Fire trilogy. I thought it was better than The Hostage. I'm looking forward to reading the third book. This is the story about a beautiful poor Irish girl who poses as a wealthy socialite one evening, and Chicago's most eligible wealthy bachelor falls in love with her. But wait... he is actually a con man who is posing as well. It's a good romantic readable tale! I've just discovered Susan Wiggs and plan to read all of her books.

Second book in the Chicago Fire Trilogy. Ladies maid Kathleen O'Leary has borrowed a dress and jewels in order to attend a party with some friends. She catches the eye of Dylan Kennedy, the most eligible bachelor in Chicago. With the great fire sweeping down on them, they impulsively marry.

Now that they've survived the fire, Kathleen must tell Dylan that he has married a fraud. But the joke's on her. Dylan, a con artist who had only planned to steal her fortune, has been caught in his own game.

Good story. I thought the first half of the book was a little slow, but it picked up after the fire.

In 1871, one small spark ignites the entire city of Chicago. Amid the chaos, a case of mistaken identity leads to an unexpected new love. Kathleen finds herself dressed in diamonds and silk, enjoying the lavish masquerade. But is the man she falls in love with a con artist or really the town's most eligible bachelor?

October 8,1871, the great fire of Chicago is said to have been started by O'leary's cow. Daughter - Kathleen O'Leary starts her own fire on this night by pretending to be someone else. Good read.

Great trilogy by Susan Wiggs. Must read all three books. Hard to put down once you start. I really enjoyed reading all three in order as written
