This book purports to be "...the authentic story of Anne Bonny...," as stated on the dust jacket. At best it is a highly fictionalized biography. Check Anne Bonny's Wikipedia page for an analysis of the facts and legend

The book is somewhat based on these facts, but the author takes exceptional literary license with all the dialogue, and more.

As for how Anne is depicted as a feminist in this book, even Gloria Steinem might have said of her, "Anne, I think you are a bit over the top." And as for her sexual habits, how she did all she did in this book without contracting one or more STDs is amazing.

The kicker comes on the last page when the author states how old Anne Bonny was when she disappears from history. There is no way she could have done all she did in the book in just a few years. Still, it is a good sea story.
