One of her better works I think. I even learned a lot about the Rapa Nui and Easter Island. A good read.

A well-written mystery with a strong main character. As a neat side benefit, there is a travelogue element, with a setting on Easter Island and fascinating glimpses of the culture and history of that exotic place. I will definitely look forward to reading more books in Hamilton's series featuring smart antiques dealer Lara McClintoch.

I enjoyed this mystery a lot! The setting is Rapa Nui (also known as Easter Island), and a series of mysterious deaths is intertwined with lots of interesting information about the "Moai" (large stone sculptures) that made the island famous. Ninth story in the Archaelogical Mysteries featuring Toronto antiques-shop owner Lara McClintoch.

Lara, an antiques dealer, goes on vacation with a friend to Easter Island and to see the Moai, the giant stone carvings. But there is intense rivalry among a group of experts staying at their hotel and one of the experts winds up dead. It's up to Lara to solve the crime.

In this story our intrepid antiquities dealer goes on vacation to Rapa Nui (Easter Island) with her friend Moira. Moira has long been fascinated with the giant statures that cover the island and wants to see them after having survived an illness. Before long the two women find themselves participating in a conference of Moai fans (the name the natives give the statues). But all is not what it seems with the conference members and before long Lara is up to her neck in bodies, mystery and a strange tattoo. Fascinating story about a most intriguing place.
