I love the Alex Delaware novels and this one is no exception. I couldn't put it down, as I had to know who did it. I love the scenes in the asylum for the criminally insane. Pyschology in general fascinates me, so any book that has a good portion spent talking with the staff and inmates in an asylum will get me hooked.

This is a great detective story. People are being murdered in grisly fashion and it leads back to a gruesome murder from years past. I love this book because it is much gorier and twisted than the average detective thriller. I love Agatha Christie-type mysteries, but this is like a horror-mystery combo and it's excellently written. A great read!!!
A good mystery with several twists and turns.
A second-rate actor is found multilated in a car trunk. Then a psychologist at a Los Angeles hospital for the criminally insane is murdered in a similiar grisly fashion. Suddenly the inchoherent ramblings of an inmate at the presumably secure institution begin to make chilling sense-they are, in fact, horrifying predictions. Yet how can a barely functional psychotic locked behind asylum walls possibly know such vivid details of crimes committed in the outside world! Drawn into a labryinth of secrets, revenge, sex, and manipulation, Dr. Alex Delaware and Detective Milo Sturgis set out to unlock this enigma and put an end to the brutal killings-before the madman predicts their own demise.
I found this book to be totally mesmerizing and very difficult to put down. Jonathan Kellerman knows how to keep the reader between the pages and this is another Alex Delaware book that just hits the spot. If you like murder mysteries, this one is for you.

Haven't read it as yet; ended up with two copies.
Another fascinating installment of the adventures of Dr. Alex Delaware and Detective Milo Sturgis, solving murders in Los Angeles and its surrounds. Actually makes Los Angeles seem like an interesting place!
This is a wonderful and fantastic book written by Jonathan Kellerman! It is totally worth your credit! (It's even worth 5 credits!)
Really good read about a inmate's knowledge about a murder.
Another AWESOME Alex Delaware novel. I am so hooked on this series.
I'm just about to the middle of this book and I'm finding it a very quick enjoyable read. I didn't want to stop reading last night.

I enjoy all the Delaware/Sturgis stories.
Another great read from Kellerman, I thoroughly enjoyed this Alex Delaware novel.
ow can a nonfunctional psychotic locked up in a supposedly secure institution for homicidal madmen predict brutal murders in the outside world? This is the enigma that Dr. Alex Delaware and Detective Milo Sturgis must penetrate in order to stop these horrific killings. First, a marginal actor is found dead in a car trunk, sawn in half. Months later, a psychologist at Starkweather Hospital for the Criminally Insane is discovered murdered and mutilated in a tantalizingly similar way. Dr. Claire Argent had been working caringly with Ardis Peake, a subnormal mental patient locked up for decades after annihilating his mother and the ranching family that rescued him from homelessness. When reports of Peake's incoherent rambling begin to make frightening sense as predictions of yet more murders, Alex and Milo are drawn into a web of family secrets, vengeance, and manipulation--both inside Starkweather and on the L.A. streets, where death, drugs, and sex are marketed as commodities. The climactic discovery they make as they race to save new victims gives fresh and terrifying meaning to the concept of true monstrosity.
Dr. Alex Delaware and Det. Milo Sturgis investigate brutal murders predicted by a patient in a mental institution. Evil, thrilling and unsettling.
Another great Dr. Alex Delaware and Det. Milo Sturgis mystery. Like all of Jonathan Kellerman's books I don't even try to figure out who done it I let him show me.
Another incredible murder mystery starring Dr. Alex Delaware and Detective Milo Sturgis. An entertaining and fear-finding story.

Jonathan Kellerman never disappoints. He's an awesome author, and this main character is truly A MONSTER!
Alex Delaware is the kind of guy that you'd like to have as a friend.

Kellerman is excellent at pulling you in to a story so deeply that you can't put it down. This was my first book of his and I will definitely be reading more by him.
Shivers down the spine!!!
Shivers down the spine!!!
All of the books that I've read by Kellerman seem to take a while to take off for me. But if I try to skip ahead I always end up having to turn back to find the key clues I missed in the process. Another great book in his Alex Delaware series!
An Alex Delaware novel. Jonathan Kellerman writes another suspenseful, intriguing novel that will cause you to keep the pages turning.
Enjoyed this novel so much I read it in one weekend.
Enjoyed this novel so much I read it in one weekend.
It was a very intresting read, intense.
It's hard to praise Jonathan Kellerman adequately without repeating oneself, especially when it comes to another great Alex Delaware/Milo Sturgis novel like "Monster". The by-play of psychologist and homicide cop is always intellectually stimulating at the same time it's gut-wrenching. This one finds the pair battling not only the perpetrators but other psychologists who staff a maximum-security facility for the criminally insane with grave indifference (and a little culpability), and similarly indifferent "policing" groups. The bodies pile up and the mystery thickens as we jump from one suspect to another, and in the end despite the careful wrap-up one is invariably caught in a familiar pair of feelings: 'I wish I hadn't read that' battles with 'I'm glad I read that'. And yes, I'll go looking for another in the series.
It kept me guessing for quite awhile.
excellent to follow this fellow thru his adventures! This one was great.
An actor then a psychologist are both found mutilated. An barely funtiioning psychotic prison of an asylum seems to have knowlege of the crimes. Dr. Delaware and Milo have to unravel the truth before the monster stricks again.
The title says it all. Somewhat Hanibal Lecterish. With a psychologist acting as detective.. A little gruesome, but very exciting while being unsettling. Hopefully it is a work of fiction.
Jonathon Kellerman - a psychological thriller- can 't put it down.
a typical alex delaware novel--good
great rean and i sure like dr delaware with his psy view. lots of time in a mental institution this time to find a killer.
Another great Alex Delaware thriller! Kellerman delivers once again !
Jonathan Kellerman's writing style reminds me alot of Dean Koontz. There is some bloody graphic violence in this one but the book was a good read and kept me guessing.
Great Read

Consulting psychologist Alex Delaware has a novel approach to crime-solving: he uses his training to unlock the secrets in the minds of the victims and jiggles the clues he finds there until the right scenario emerges. So when Alex's LAPD buddy Milo finds the hacked-up body of a woman psychologist named Claire Argent in an abandoned car trunk--the second such murder in eight months--Alex heads for her place of employment: the Starkweather State Hospital for the Criminally Insane.
One of Argent's patients at Starkweather is Ardis "Monster" Peake, imprisoned for the unbelievably brutal murders of his mother and the family she worked for, including a small child and a baby. There's at least one eerie similarity between the mutilation of their bodies and Argent's: in all the bodies, the eyes were taken or destroyed. But Peake, diagnosed as schizophrenic and psychotic, is a well-behaved vegetable due to a steady diet of Thorazine, and he hasn't left the hospital since his incarceration 15 years before. How is it, then, that Claire Argent's assistant, Heidi Ott, swears she heard Peake say, "Dr. A. Bad eyes in a box" soon after he hears only the bare fact of her death? And why does Alex find Peake so empathetic, in spite of his violent past and chillingly vacant mind? When other mutilated bodies turn up, Alex and Milo begin to suspect that the real monster is very much at large. Like Kellerman's 12 previous Alex Delaware mysteries, Monster builds to a big, teeth-clenching bang and ends with some very satisfying surprises. --Barrie Trinkle
This book is a psychological thriller that reminds me of a non-cannibal Hannibal Lecter or Jeffrey Dahmer. Good big read that takes time but is enjoyable. This isn't a book you can read through in a few hours. Full of suspense, fear and drama.

Psychological thriller that keeps you guessing right to the end ~ chilling and a bit gruesome in parts ~ a real page turner. Kellerman evokes mind-bending characters and drama that will keep you on the edge of your seat, unable to tear your eyes from his riveting descriptions.
This is one of Jonathan Kellerman's best books. I could hardly put it down. It holds your interest.
Way too graphic... let's say TOO well written!

Another book that was hard to put down. This is a really good author. Keeps you going right to the last page.
I didn't find it as good as Kellerman's other books I've read, but it was an interesting read. The end provides a twist that quite honestly I felt was predictable. However, I still enjoyed the story that was told.
Couldn't get into this one.

THIS IS A GOOD ONE! I LIKE ALL ALEX DELAWARE BOOKS.
Was a hard book to get started. Went along fine for a while, then the details became clouded again. Seemed to go in many different directions at once. Hard to keep track of all of the characters and the plot. Finally at the end the book then once again became clear as to what was happening. Not sure I would read another Kellerman Book.
Kellerman asks and answers the question: How can a nunfunctional psychotic locked up in a secure institution for homicidal madmen predict brutal murders in the outside world?
I have not read this book.
