This book was a favorite of my eldest daughter who is now 20 years old and majoring in creative writing. The story gives the adult reader the chance to be silly--to use extreme emotion while reading to little ones and to imitate the voice of a beloved TV character. Preschoolers will love it and pretend they don't want to reach the end of the book, just like Grover. We wore out 3 copies over the years!

My dauther is 7 and still loves this book. It's so funny! Read it with lots of expression. Grover is scared to death of the monster he thinks he'll find at the end of the book, and he'll do anything to keep you from turning pages!

I loved this book as a child and now as a parent. Big surprise at the end of the book, your kids will love it.

I remember this book from my childhood. I loved it then and still love it now. I got a copy to pass along to a friend's son for his birthday. For those familiar with Sesame Street and Grover (and there are few who aren't), you can almost hear Grover's voice telling you not to turn the page and get closer to the monster waiting at the end of the book.

We love this book. My daughter is 11 and this is one of a handful of books that we have held onto. We read it over and over.

This is a short and sweet book perfect for bedtime unless your little one actually listens to Grover's please to not turn the page! Lots of opportunities for sound effects - huffing and puffing, pounding with a hammer, crashing down a brick wall, simply fun.

A fun favorite since my childhood. It has children laughing all the way to the end.
This is a funny book, but a bit old for my two year old daughter. It's a good chance to be silly, but she just thinks I'm yelling and doesn't understand. I think a 3 to 7 year old would like this better. :) I thought I'd give it away now and buy it again in a year or two. :)

One of the BEST little kid books ever written. No, not high quality LITERATURE, but this book offers the opportunity for the parent to use his/her silly voice to imitate Grover, to REALLY get into the fret and frustration poor ol' Grover has trying to keep the reader (the little kid) from turning the pages. This truly was one of our favorites for the younger age range!
Be sure to look for the sequel too... Another Monster at the End of This Book !

As I read this to my son, I can totally still here Grover's voice as I read it. What a classic.

Lots of fun!
This is a childhood classic. I'm personally not terribly fond of it, and DD is too young to get the irony of Grover being the moster he's afraid of, so we're passing it on.

This was one of my favorite books as a child. I have very fond memories of my grandma reading this to me and the two of us being silly! She would get really into the story and be dramatic like Grover is, and I would laugh and laugh!
I definitly recommend this book for young kids!

Gift copy!
This is one of my all time favorite children's books ever!!!
The book is so well written and adorable! I love how Grover is talking to the readers throughout the book; it really feels as though you are interacting with him during the story. And his comments and pleas to the readers to stop turning pages is so cute. My kids get more excited as anticipation grows, and we get closer and closer to the end of the book.
I also really love how the message helps to relay that there was nothing to be afraid of the whole time. It's funny how kids will naturally empathize with Grover being afraid of monsters. But in a way, they become somewhat empowered as the readers who keep turning the pages. And the ending does such a great job of giving a warm reassuring feeling that everything is fine, and Grover was silly to be scared (especially because he's the monster at the end of the book).
Because I consider this to be a personal favorite and classic, I have actually bought it several times as gifts for other kids. Again, the price is awesome and everyone enjoys it; it's a win win for all!
Highly recommended!!!
