What an amazing story! The book sucks you in from the very beginning and never lets you go, your right there, in the middle of it all, you can feel it, taste it, smell it, and fear it! And who would of thought, this book is classified as a christian based work of fiction! I will definitly be reading more from Peretti!

Wonderful, suspenseful, amazing and terrific come to mind when rating this book! I think that the writing on this book is outstanding and the storyline is just great. I read this one and then handed it to my daughter and then mom; each one of us could not put this one down. That is how good this book was.

Peretti takes it to a whole other level in this novel. Keep the light on - you'll be up all night to finish this one.

Great book as far as scary books go. Not much on the spiritual side of life but a good book anyway. Don't judge a book by its cover because if you do, you will probably not pick this one up. There are some graphic scenes played out but other than that it gives a sound story of deception, corruption and the good guys winning in the end. I wouldn't recommend this book for a younger audience because of the intense descriptions but should be okay for teens and older.

An interesting Christian Thriller by the best author in this genre! From the front cover: "Left to his own devices, man will always create a ... MONSTER!" I'm unable to say more, or I would be giving away the plot. Most enjoyable.

"Monster" is a great book, there is no doubt about it, especially for established fans of Frank Peretti and, in general, Christian suspense fiction. The story tells the tale of a stranded hiker who is kidnapped by creatures in the woods. The characters are relatable and well-developed, there are plenty of twists and revelations in the story, and the ending is magnificent, but some (even Christians) might be too overcome by the bias presented in the material, and several spots where entire pages are devoted to complicated scientific talk the average reader probably wouldn't understand. Overall, though, this is definitely recommended!

Frank Peretti is among the ranks of early Steven King when it comes to keeping the reader on the edge of their seat! Monster is a great fast read with good morals intertwined in the end.

Plot: The idea for this plot was good, however, when put to practice, I don't think it was quite up to par. There were several twists that kept the book interesting, but when I had finished, I didn't feel satisfied. There were several stories converging to make the sum of the book, and I think there might have been just a little too much happening.
Characters: There was not enough depth to the characters in this story. The first couple chapters give a little insight to the history of Beck, but other than that, the characters lives are only revealed in small chunks of information if it became relevant to the plot.
Themes: Overcoming fear was the theme of this book, and while it was obvious, I don't think that it was integrated into the story enough. It was covered in the beginning, and then in the end, but through the middle of the story, the themed just, kind of, got lost and out crowded by the plot of the story.
Emotion: I did not find this story to have much emotion. There was a lot going on and it kept my mind busy but there wasn't emotion in the words.
Overall: I really like the way this book is written from so many different perspectives. It gives a much deeper understanding of what is going on. Even as you read all of the perspectives, the story is still written fluidly so that you don't get lost or confused. I also really liked that after each chapter, there was a map to show where things where happening.

Something glimmered in that black chasm...two huge eyes, like silvery green headlights, floating slowly in the dark. They blinked....then vanished.
More terrifying than any nightmare, something has cathed a very real path trough the Idaho hills, paving it in blood and echoing screams. It lives, it hunts, and it's just getting started. THIS TIME, THE MONSTER IS REAL.

This is classic Peretti, except not as much of the supernatural...still freaky, though! I loved it!
Am I hearing things, or is it something out there? A stick cracks and I jump. This is the experience I had after reading this book. Edge of your seat drama and suspense kept me turning the pages. Frank Peretti has done a great job at keeping my attention. I love this book and his style of writing. Just don't go camping any time soon...
Great story. This story is well written with several surprises. Loved the book and will read it again and again.
"Monster" is the story of a shy, house-bound, stuttering young woman, Beck Shelton. Her husband, Reed, is a deputy sheriff, and though he loves her deeply, he wants to help her broaden her horizons and develop her self-confidence. He has planned a survival weekend with another married couple, complete with a wildnerness guide. But like all of Peretti's stories that deal with the dark side of humanity, things rarely go as planned.
Peretti knows how to grab the reader's attention and hold on with every turn of the page. With a point of view that moves back and forth between those searching for Beck and what Beck is experiencing, there are several edge-of-the-seat moments. A map is included at the end of every chapter to show the location of events that took place in that chapter. And it isn't until the book is nearly concluded, that one finds out who the true monster is.

I really enjoyed this story! It brought up quite a lot of thoughts about evolution, science, and responsibility to nature. It is classified as Christian fiction, I think, because of it's undertones of creation vs. evolution. I especially enjoyed the relationships amongst the "monsters".
Great story and a fairly quick read.

This is a GREAT book! I love it! I would recommend this to anyone except maybe children under the age of 9 cause they would get lost and kids under 8 would probably have nightmares...
I loved this book. I have always been a fan of Frank Peretti.
"The Oath" is another one of my faves.
This book is very suspenseful. It reads really quick though, once you are into it.

I really enjoyed this book. I thought is was one of his best yet.
Terrific
A surprisingly credible story of how totally wrong human creativity can go and the power of compassion. Peretti's character's are real, and the remarkably visual story draws and holds the readers full attention.
From a note to the Reader by the Publisher, WestBow Press: "Be prepared to enter into deep wilderness where the rules of civilization no longer apply. A world where strange shadows lurk. Where creatures long attributed to overactive imaginations and nightmares are the hunters ... and you are the hunted."
A great quick read for a big book.

Very different read..keeps you glued to your seat!
This is a pseudoscience thriller in which a family group of bigfoots (bigfeet?) aren't even the title characters. It was sufficiently engaging that I finished it, but the so-called science was preposterous. It's not uncommon to push the envelope scientifically in books in this genre, but in this case the author has a clear agenda. He is a self-identified "Christian author", and credits a visit with Discovery Institute's Jonathan Wells for helping refine his ideas. Wells is a widely discredited creationist who has tried to use unconvincing pseudoscience to attack evolution. The agenda of the author takes about a half book to emerge, but then we learn that one of the principal protagonists has been fired from a university for anti-evolutionary views. Then it turns out that the major bad guy is an evolutionist who have combined DNA from chimps and people to generate many unfortunate mistakes and eventually a monster, which he tries to hide by murder of those in a position to learn of his secret. The rationale of why anyone would choose to pursue such a tactic is ridiculous, and the explanation of the science involved bogus. At least it has a happy ending; the bad guy loses and the creationist is welcomed back to the university - right! If you like this kind of book, I would recommend Douglas Preston solo or with Lincoln Child instead.
This really tickled my funny bone. Though it is very much Peretti and scary/intriguing I also found it humorus that he would pick this thing to be his focus. Loved it!
Kind of a bigfoot and king kong rolled into one
Excellent book. Well written.
Extremely disappointing book. Any book with the title Monster should be scary and engaging. This was a boring mystery story at best with some Bigfoot creatures thrown in to the mix. I would not have minded it so much if it was not advertised as a horror novel. The only thing scary about this book was the time I wasted reading it.
A solid, enjoyable suspense story starring the Pacific Northwest's biggest, hairiest, squatchiest wildlife. A search party goes out to hunt the 'bear' that has dragged away a young woman-- but do some of the hunters have ulterior motives?
As a biology student I could have done without the attacks on Darwinism that get slipped in occasionally, but the strength of the storyline pulled me through. 3.5 stars for a well-plotted, enjoyable read.

Could not put this one down,,What surprise ending..You won't regret getting this book...
I suppose I should have known the author - but I didn't and I was really disapointed and turned off by this book. If you are a christain extremist who doesn't believe in science or evolution, then this is the book for you. The story was very one-dimensional and served as a conduit for the religious agenda. I disliked this book so much, I threw it away rather than reswap it.
I had hear many good things about this book, so I ordered it. I really enjoyed the story and even recommended it to a few friends. Well, last night at Bible study, one of my friends started talking about a Christian author named Frank Pereti and how she read a few of his books and really enjoyed them. I was so surprised! I didnt even realize when I was reading it, that he is a Christian author. It kind of puts a new perspective on it and I want to go back and reread! I also will be ordereing more books by him!
Are they really monsters? Peretti had me wondering through out the book. Monsters are in the eye of the beholder.
This was my 2nd Peretti book and it was fabulous! I love a book that grips me right from the start and doesn't let go. I have followed the Bigfoot stories & documentaries since I first heard of them on In Search Of with Leonard Nemoy as a kid.
I sat glued to my chair and stayed up too late reading every night until I finished. I got so involved I found myself talking out loud to the characters like you might do to a tv show.
This is a book I will keep and definitely re- read.

I hate when that happens. But finished it and still thought it was worth reading again.
