This was my first introduction to D.Garlock and I immediately fell in love with her writing. This is down-home, southern style writing at it's best--reminds me of Fanny Flagg meets Billie Letts. It's a story about a gentler time where a mans word was as good as a check in the bank and where honesty is defined as much by what you DON'T say, as what you do, with some mystery and crime thrown in for extra good measure--a must read--I have since bought the sequal [Hope's Highway" ]to this as well, simply becuase this book leaves you attached to the people and makes you feel like you know them and they're your neighbors. I hated to see it end. I wished she would make this into a series.
