One o the best book I have ever read, and I don't use the label lightly. In a relative small number of pages, John Barnes manages to weave a story about climate change, the tie-in together forced on us by the internet (globalization) and the changes brought about in the media landscape. And he did all of this in 1995! I would dare call this book seminal. Very few people have still discovered this book, which is a shame. Still, this does not stop me from recommending it as highly as I can.

This is my favorite sci-fi novel ever. I have read it 4 different times in my life and it is always awesome. Everything in the book could come true, which makes it eerily fun and creepy at the same time.
What a mix of end of the world climate change, extremist capitalists vs extremist Deepers (can't really figure out what to call them, not liberals, not environmentalists, maybe one worlders?) vs extremist nationalists, with a soupçon (or maybe more) of pornography, murder and the kitchen sink.
Amazing. And I forgot to mention, when was the last time NOAA was the hero? Even though all the poor meteorologists don't make it though the storms, political chicanery, etc etc, nice change.
