This is the first book I've read by Charles Martin. I really enjoyed it. I started reading it as I was at the airport waiting for a plane that was having mechanical issues. The story sucked me in quickly and I couldn't put it down. What a story of survival!! The description was so good I found myself cringing at times like I was there with the characters. I liked the flow of the story, just when they were getting ahead, a set back... GOOD twist at the end.
The story will stick with me for awhile to come and I plan to read other books by Mr. Martin.

Wow! What a great read! This is a survival/love story...it is a book that will stay with me for awhile. It grabbed me from the first page and I had a hard time putting it down. Highly recommend!!

Wow, what an ending this book has! Winter, snowbound survival stories are not usually my cup of tea, but this book held my interest because of the underlying love story that was revealed every other chapter through the main character's tape recordings to his wife. This was a fairly easy read, but it did drag a bit in the middle for me. Overall, I DO recommend this book - the ending especially is phenominal.

This is another very good book from Charles Martin who is the author of "Where the River Ends". It is a page-turning story of love and survival. The last chapter is uplifting and life changing. I'll never forget the following: "...Maybe each of us was once a complete whole. A clear picture. A single piece. Then something happened to crack and shatter us. Leaving us disconnected, torn and splintered. Then someone comes along who mends a tattered edge, or returns a piece. The process is tedious..." The book is beautifully written that reaffirms your belief in the power of love to sustain us.

Loved it!! I have a crush on Charles Martin now. This is the first I've read of him and I only set the book down twice. I was smacked right between the eyes with the twist and really liked the ending. It was so sweetly romantic and refreshingly not smutty which makes this book so wonderful. Everyone should be lucky enough to feel that depth of love.

I really enjoyed this book. There really are only 2 main characters and still it kept my interest. Only about 3 other people are mentioned or appear so the cast is small, but very important. The description of everything is detailed but not boring so you get a real flavor of what the characters are experiencing.
Very interesting story with a great ending.

This is one of those books that draws you gently in from the beginning and it just gets better and better as it goes. To give the ending away would be criminal, but suffice it to say that you will be nodding your head "yes" over it and understanding why it ended as it did. If you have ever read anything by this author, you will appreciate how different in character this book is for him, yet at the same time, you will see that same rich detail work that he is known for.

I gave this book 5 stars because I read it in a day and couldn't put it down! I loved the three characters and of course, the dog. Was it credible? Maybe not.....but what the heck, I loved it anyway!! After all, it IS fiction. The ending was fulfilling, even though the visual really creeped me out!! I definitely would recommend this book.

This was my first book from Charles Martin. He is a southern author, and as I now live in the south, I had the opportunity to hear him talk about about his books and his work at a "Meet the Author" event in the community in which I now live.
With no intention, in any way, to insult anyone, my friend and I detected a slight Christian perspective to his writing, and as neither of us are Christians we were at first unsure about this author and his writing style. However, we were quickly intrigued by this, gentle, intelligent young man, and his reviews of his current and past novels.
The review of The Mountain Between Us was the most intriguing to me, and I purchased the book at the end of the event.
This is a story about the life of a young doctor, who got on a plane with a stranger and an event which changed his life, and the life of the other passenger, with a twist I certainly did not expect. I completely enjoyed this wonderful story, the lovely, well written characters and an unexpected, totally surprising ending. Certainly an author I will be reading more of.......soon!

Charactar development is so important in any good read. Charles Martin does an incredible job of helping to know Ben, Ashley and Grover. I felt their pain and begged for their surivival.

A great adventure story with lots of depth and well-drawn-out characters.
Really good book with a surprising ending! Our book club read this and really enjoyed it.
This is a wonderful story. But all of Charles Martin's books are. His writing style is unique and keeps me very interested. It is now part of my library and will not be reposted.
I wanted to read all of Charles Martin's book after I finished When Crickets Cry. The Mountain Between Us was the next book of his that I read. It got a little drawn out ( I thought) in the middle, but It's an excellent plot and a twist ending.
I read The Mountain Between Us with a buddy in my online book club, The Reading Cove.
Unfortunately, I'm in the minority on this one. The plot was too contrived and the writing style just wasn't for me. How convenient that Ben's an orthopedic surgeon? And also knows chapter and verse about surviving in such harsh conditions?
So I was totally bored after the initial crash, because the narrative kept coming to a screeching halt with constant flash backs to Ben Payne's life with his wife.
With the plot moving at a drunken snail's pace, I lost interest, and the twist at the end felt meh to me since I never really bought into the story and characters to begin with.
Here's hoping I enjoy the movie a bit more!

AWESOME book! Loved it!!
This was a little slow in the middle for me but once it picked back up I couldn't put it down.
