This book has something that most Jane Austen borrowed plotlines don't. And that is the acknowledgement that the plot is actually borrowed. I also like that the main character of Me and Mr. Darcy, Emily Albright, doesn't completely succumb to the stereotypical "Jane Austen girl". She knows that she fantasizes about Mr. Darcy, and that he is fictional, and she's not actually looking for someone who is Mr. Darcy. That is, until she finds Mr. Darcy himself.
Me and Mr. Darcy was a fun read; it was easy, and enjoyable. The only downside was that the novel was pretty predictable. But in this case, I expected that it would be. And I didn't mind in the slightest. I would definitely read Me and Mr. Darcy if I were you - especially if you're at all a fan of Jane Austen.

I think that this is a contemporary romance/chick lit novel which would probably appeal to people who are fans of Pride and Prejudice (who aren't sick of re-tellings/ sequels/ spin-offs) and who are not expecting to find something like a re-write of a classic, but rather a fun homage. If you love that book (/movies/miniseries) you might get a kick out of the way Me and Mr Darcy parallels the story told there and also with the crossovers where Emily actually meets Mr. Darcy. I liked it. I felt like a P&P nerd for reading it and being amused by it. This book also made me want to go on a nice bus tour of the English countryside and to go stop at museums and old mansions. The scenery and tourist destinations described here felt very realistically portrayed. Also the timeline of this book happening for a week around Christmas and New Years makes this a book to read now to start gearing up for a nice holiday.

A slightly amusing update of Pride and Prejudice. Very transparent plot & writing. It is very "now" and will be very dated in just a few years. Overall, it was just ok for a beach book.

This was a fun albeit mindless book. It was very predictable but you really didn't care. As other posters have said - it is very current and will not stand the test of time. If you are a fan of Pride and Prejudice (and of Mr Darcy himself mmmmmmm) you will enjoy this lighthearted book.

I had high hopes for this book. Unfortunately, for me, it was simply a standard, somewhat enjoyable read. When I pick up a romance, I have the expectation of being taken out of myself, and being able to count on a happily resolved ending. I suppose it can be said that the ending was a happy one, and it was, but it left something to be desired. It seemed rushed. Perhaps it was the author's attempt to mirror what the great Jane Austen accomplished. Perhaps someone else will find it highly enjoyable. It is not a keeper for me.

A great read! I loved this contemporary story of a bookseller whose first love was Mr. Darcy. After a long list of dismal dates, she goes to England for a Jane Austen lovers tour. There she gets to meet Mr. Darcy in more ways than one. And is he the perfect man? Could reality be better than fiction? I really enjoyed this book!

At times I wanted to tell the main character to get over herself, to stop being such an ugly American, and to stop manufacturing her anger. You know what's going to happen in the end. And at times, I wanted to say, "Hello! It's a dream...what's taking you so long to figure that out?!" Eventually, however, the character and I got past all that. In the end, I liked the result and a couple little twists I didn't expect. And with that...I'll stop.
The book isn't great literature but it was a fast read and a reminder of what pride and prejudice can do to our judgment if we're not careful. Hopefully, most of us are more careful about our snap judgments than the main character. It's also a good reminder to keep track of what is fact and what is fiction in our lives.

I really enjoyed this book! I didn't think I'd like it as much as I did, but it was fun and a very quick read. I agree, the parts with Mr. Darcy were less interesting than the parts with Spike.

Honestly, it took me awhile to get into this book. But once I got into it, I really enjoyed it. It is a great book when you need something lighthearted and I loved the ending! I would definitely recommend it for anyone who enjoys classic literature (especially Pride & Prejudice), because there are tons of literary references. I also loved the main character. She was a very real person who often reminded me of myself. Good read!

Yuck. That's really how I felt about this book(I will do my nest to review with no spoilers). I enjoyed the first 80 or so pages (the ones before she left New York), but after that this book really fell flat. I felt as if this could have been a cute, if some what done, book. But Ms. Potter just made the characters so unlikeable (to me at least). The best friend Stella was so shallow that I really found noting to like about her except her marriage. The journalist, Spike, sounded nothing like an ideal man. I remember in the book he was at first described as having a "beer stomach" and later "love handles" with corduroy patched jacket and smoking a ton. He kept a string a French girlfriends and fighting with them because it was easier than having a real "feeling" relationship. Now later in the book it almost seems Potter decides to backtrack and make him better. She never mentions his smoking again. He starts to rescue the main character and he tells of how he & his family were wronged and he fixed it. I just had so many problems with this character. Now, the main character Emily. She was likable enough, but she seemed so stupid. What does "crickey" mean, what is topshop, maybe I can just move this barrier in a museum and sit down at a 200 year old desk. I just felt that she was too dumb, but then we were also supposed to believe she was a "strong, independent woman". She didn't really seem like she could be both to me. Overall very disappointing book!
It had it's good moments but overall it was hard to get through. I thought the parts with Mr. Darcy were not that good and I found myself skipping through those parts.

I've read a few of these Austen-themed "chick-lit" novels. This one was cute with a likable main character (surprisingly hard to come by in chick-lit books. I'm looking at you "Shopaholic" books) and the storyline was pleasant (and familiar, but that's intentional). All in all, it's a good beach read. If you haven't read "Bridget Jones's Diary", pick that one up, because it did the P&P homage better, but this one is a fun, quick read.

I am a big fan of Jane Austen and especially Pride & Prejudice and I wanted to read this book because of this, but I felt the book was weakly written and the characters were very weak. I enjoyed it because of the connection, but I would have never finished it if it didn't have the connection.

If you've loved Mr. Darcy as much as most of us, you'll enjoy this modern take that actually brings him to life in the contemporary world. I read it in a couple of days and truly enjoyed it.

I just finished this book and really enjoyed it. One thing that I loved was it wasn't trying to be a sequel to Pride and Prejudice rather it incorporated Pride and Prejudice into its story. The book is a bit on the far fetched side with Emily's encounters with Mr. Darcy but it was still a very fun read. Has a ton of references to pop culture today which I loved because I will admit I love my gossip mags. The book is very cute and a light read. I would recommend this book to any fan of Pride and Prejudice because it makes a cute tie in.

I read tons of romance books and most, if not al of them are predictable but they are still enjoyable to me. This book was extremelly boring. I ended up skipping over all of the sections where the main character actually meets "Mr. Darcy." It felt corny, unreal, and pointless. There was just nothing substantial to the plot. I can honestly say that I will not give this author another try.

A fun, refreshing and inventive read. I wish I would have formed a better visual picture of the character "Spike" earlier on in the book. I had to rally quickly at the end and throw something together based on bits and pieces about him that I read earlier. It's not that the author did not develop his character well enough, but that I quickly became prejudiced and didn't give him much attention.

A very enjoyable read that made me want to read Pride and Prejudice. This is a slightly unusual romance that keeps you guessing almost to the end. It's an easy read. The characters are charming and the book kept me interested throughout. If you love a happy ending, read Me and Mr. Darcy.
an easy read... I would have liked to have developed a connection with the important characters but that didn't happen. The author wanted Spike to be disagreeable and she accomplished that but when it came time for that to turn around, there was no transition to redemption. it simply left me thinking, "um, when/why did that happen?"
If you're a HUGE fan of Pride and Prejudice and read all the alternative sequels, go ahead and read this. It's modern day. I found it boring and predictable.
"Confessions of a Jane Austin Addict" meets "Thursday Next"... hope that doesn't give anything away.

Loved the writing...loved the idea behind the story and loved the fantasy! Fantastic twist on the Jane Austen story and also on chic lit. She was light hearted and still got some major points in the thoughtful department - nothing was sacrificed.
