"Mrs. Caliban" cannot properly be praised without giving away what the "New Statesman" said "can only be described as a literary shock." However, of this, her latest novel, it can truthfully be said that it has all the elements required for a late-night TV horror movie: unnatural sex, a demon lover, a King Kong aspect, a suspenseful car crash ending in a fatal crash, a hint of the jasmine of Madame Butterfly, and even an ozone-like whiff of E.T. Almost as truthfully it can be said that "Mrs. Caliban" is just a short book on how to keep house for a monster.
