I have read all of Emily Brightwell's Mrs Jeffries books and suggest beginning at the beginning because she graduatlly builds her central characters and that is part of the pleasure of this series. This is her 23rd in the series, she has written 3 more as of this review and it is as superb as all of her others. This is a Victorian era murder mystery with subtlety and restraint. It is very well written and a delight to read. I'm good at solving mysteries and I usually don't have any clear idea until close to the end of the book.

Well, when you get to the end of the book, you understand there was a good reason why it was difficult to catch the murderer.
And the wedding is back on.
