I bought this on a complete whim because the cover and premise called to me. I didn't expect to really like it, but wow, was I in for a surprise. This is a surprisingly insightful book into one man, whom we never really meet; told by his 3 wives. Stuck in the middle of all of it is his son, who your heart just aches for. Definitely worth a read, I'm glad I picked this one up!

great story of 3 different women all married to the same man, who becomes a different man himself w/ each of the 3 women. Each woman's story is riveting and surely you will find some aspect to relate to your own life. An excellent read!

Absolutely wonderful book. Drew me in with the first sentence. A book about different lives revolving around one man. NOT a romance, dark in some places, but an interesting book that is easy to read.

I really enjoyed this story of a man who touches (and not usually in a very good way) so many lives. He can turn on the charm initially and draw women in only to leave them empty and wondering what went wrong. I particularly enjoyed the journey each woman took to reflect on the relationship with Ken and see the progression that they didn't realize was happening at the time. It raises questions about the importance of how the other person makes you feel both in the short and long term. Ken really seemed to be quite immature, only really able to connect with much younger women. I was intrigued by the character of Brendan the most, though he was only in the very end of the book. He seemed to embody the way we are shaped by our home environment and the potential we all have to rise out of our circumstances.

I'm glad I finally got around to reading this one. It raises so many questions in my mind about relationships and what draws us to others. This is truly great book, especially given that it is the author's first novel.

The premise was original and thought-provoking. It was kind of a slow-moving book, something I'd picture as a dark movie that is very quiet and slow, very IFC-esque. I read this quickly, within a couple days because I wanted to know if Mr. Kimble would ever be exposed for the creep he was, and I liked Joan & Dinah. Good read.

This book was really good! I could not put it down and was disappointed when I finished it. I wasn't disappointed in the ending just that it was over. Mr kimble is a creep, hard to imagine that there are people so cold and calculated out in the world. Definitly a good read.

An interesting look at the way three different women approached the same husband at different times in their lives and his life. The ending is an interesting twist.

I think any ONE of the Mrs. Kimble's would have made for an excellent story by itself. All of the characters were so very clearly defined that you got to know them so well, you could go into a room and see them! Unfortunately there are quite a few female co-dependant behaviors from the women, but most women will admit to feeling these needs if not acting on them. Today it seems that everyone expects women to be self-dependant in ALL area of thieir lives and to act the part even if they might feel differntly. I enjoyed this book alot.

I did enjoy this book. Kimble was a strange man. I think he was always searching for something such as totally different women and success in business. He loved the limelight and and having a trophy wife on his arm. He was a selfish character-did not care about the children. The bottom line is that there is only one person he really cared about and that was himself.

I wasn't sure about this when i ordered it as i have never read anything by Jennifer Haigh. I LOVED this book. I didn't want it to end. What a refreshing read. None of that chick lit i was thinking the cover might indicate. I loved this so much i just ordered her other books. Was quite a fast read--just kept turning the pages to see what is going to happen next.

Outstanding first novel. A story of Ken Kimble, a handsome man with an unknown past, and Birdie, Joan and Dinah, who each marry ken at successive stages. The wives are complex, three dimentional characters. From a book review "a memorable novel that is bewitching, heartrending and real."

This novel starts in 1969 and ends around ends around 1994. Ken Kimble is seen thru the eyes of his wives,(Birdie, Joan, Dinah) and his son Charlie. I wish there was more on the wives after he deserted them but the story is still good. I want to read the authors next book now....

Love Jennifer's writing. She invites you right in from the start. A unique story line. I could have her write another book that follows the future of some of the characters. Very enjoyable.

Very interesting writing as three different characters are introduced as Ken Kimble's wives. The story is told in sequence from the first spouse to the last. The story was compelling and well written. The last sentence in the book though left the story open to a sequel. I was confused, and in want for more.

I overall really enjoyed this book! I love how the author split up Kimble's life into 3 different stories, all while intertwining them in the end.
I had a friend who read this tell me that she HATED Ken Kimble, while I on the other hand walked away really irritated with the "Mrs. Kimble" more then anything..
Sure I got to a point where I wished/hoped Kimble was dead, but I also felt no pity for these women who where so content with not really knowing the man they slept next to.

One of my favorite books...captures the decieving ways of one man and how his life effected so many. Keeps you interested to find out what happens not only to him but the other characters in the story. A would recommend this to anyone.

A story of three woman who marry the same man and their lives with a charismatic predator.

I really liked this book. The story was different--definitely not typical chick lit. The Kimble character is a self-centered, charming liar, but the story--as the title says--is really about the women he married. The portrait of the first wife he abandons is raw and very real. You'll cheer for the third wife as she turns things around and makes the second part of life better. A quick read that keeps your interest.

I was about three-quarters of the way through this book when I realized I knew almost nothing about "Mister" Kimble other than that three women lived their lives for/with him. What a great commentary on women who love badly. I came to admire all three women even for their weaknesses. And I finished the book happy to know as little as I did about the guy! I passed this book on to a friend and plan to recommend it to my book club.

I loved this book. I started it one night when I couldn't sleep and then I couldn't sleep 'cuz I couldn't put the book down. I then lent it to my mother who read it in two days. An interesting story. Reads very smoothly and I got very pulled in by the characters.

What a fantastic read!! I have been holding onto this book and have moved it more than once. I am so upset with myself for not reading it before now.

A twisted story about a man who has relationship ADD. He can't handle a wife after they become in his mind boring or complacent. I loved how she wove the story through not only the views of each of the three wives, but also of his first son. The different perspectives between the women and the son make this story deep and moving. It also made me wonder what we don't know about the people around us. This man was able to switch identities at the drop of a hat and begin again.

I would absolutely pass this book along to all of my friends and family.

This is the story of 3 women who marry the same man. Ken Kimble is revealed through the eyes of the women he seduces. Birdie, who is deserted by him, Joan who is shaken by a personal tragedy, and Dinah a beautiful woman half his age.

Why these women stayed with this ass after they found out what he was really like is beyond me. I thought they were a bunch of dummies. No strong characters here.

Loved Haigh's writing style, will be looking for her work in the future. Story of Ken Kimble, opportunist who marries three weak women who can't live without a man. I couldn't relate to their stories but found them somewhat interesting. Haigh's writing style kept me reading, altho ending was disappointing.
