This series is excellent and surprising. An unusual book because it is about a CIA operative who is well past the age you would normally expect to find. This is because Mrs. Pollifax didn't start until after her kids were raised with kids of their own and she was a widow finding life dull and boring. Her life is anything but now as she circles the globe finding adventure and risk wherever she goes. This is the seventh book in the series.

Although recently married, Mrs. Pollifax is packed and ready to go to China, where a young agent, Sheng Ti, holds the answers to goings on at the sinister Feng Imports--a one-time agency front. Only Mrs. Pollifax has earned Sheng's trust, and only she can possibly stop what turns out to be a frightening and ominous plot involving drugs, smuggled diamonds, a famous cat burglar turned Interpol agent, a mysterious psychic, and, of course, murder.....possibly her own!

This is a short novel, just 181 pages, but packed full of danger, intrigue, death and interesting characters, some of the later from previous missions Mrs. Pollifax undertook for Mr Carstairs .
So, despite the torture she suffers, at least Emily is with old friends.
I especially enjoyed it as I know of many of the places in Hong Kong mentioned in the book, as I spent---thanks to Uncle Sam---a total of 13 days in Hong Kong and the New Territories in the early 70s.

Mrs. Pollifax is rushed off to Hong Kong to find out what has happened to an old friend. A series of chance meetings with strangers leads her to discover a terrible plot. This revelation nearly costs her her life. Great exciting read.

Another great Gilman plot involving the senior, Mrs. Pollifax. In this adventourous plot she is sent to Hong Kong but gets more than she has bargained for. She is given a most dangerous assignment in Hong Kong and almost meets her maker. Once you start reading, you can't put it down. Highly recommended!
