Cute mystery/detective story. Abby has a lot of guts to go through what she goes through. It's nice to see someone stick to their guns and not get intimidated! Fun read.

An engaging first book in the series with an interesting cast of characters. Abby gets herself in a " thorny" predicament when she meddles in a recent murder and it takes some pape-turning action to get herself out of it. I would highly recommend this book and I will be looking for the next in the series.

As fresh as a daisy with a bouquet of irresistible characters.-Elaine Viets, author of the Dead-End Job Mysteries

"I don't meddle, honest! But can I help it if my nose for injustice is as keen as my green thumb? Now I, Abby Knight, law school dropout, am the proud new owner of Bloomers, my hometown flower shop. I'm devoted to making my business grow, but I'm no shrinking violet if someone needs my help to right a wrong-even if that person is already dead..."
An engaging debut with a spirited sleuth, quirky sidekicks, and page-turning actions-Nancy J. Cohen, author of Bad Hair Day Mysteries.

Don't be mislead by the cutesy cover designs, because the story between the covers is not cutesy. It is a well written, well developed mystery that keeps a reader involved and turning pages like mad. Parts are laugh-out-loud funny and parts cause breath-holding suspense. I'm glad there are a number of books in this series, because I couldn't bear to stop at just one!

A mediocre rendering of a too-obvious mystery. Simon the cat was a hugely redeeming character.

I really enjoyed this book, despite the heroine's occassional Too-Stupid-Too-Live moment. Good mystery with interesting characters. I will definitely continue with the next book and hope the heroine gets smarter. But even if she doesn't, the supporting characters are great enough to keep coming back.

I absolutely loved this book and couldn't put it down! Even when you thought you had it all figured out you ended up being a bit surprised. I did figure it out completely before the final chapter, but that didn't detract from my enjoyment of the book. This is a true cozy with no extreme violence, but enough going on so you aren't bored to tears. Very well done!

First in the series. I loved it!! Abby's owns a flower shop and gets involved in a mystery (after her car is hit and a dead body is found around the corner). She gets help from Marco - ex-cop, now PI and owns the bar down the street. This was a fun and enjoyable book. I look forward to reading more in this series.

This book was a fun, easy read. While I did enjoy the story, I felt the writing could have been a bit better. It wasn't bad, but I felt like it was maybe badly edited or written immaturely. It is also the authors first book in the series, so who knows. Not to say I won't read the rest of them, they are entertaining and if you are an avid reader, you can get through it in a few days.

For those of us that think we could be the character in a book that finds the clue that solves the latest mystery, and can Not keep our nose out of everyone's news, this is your type of cozy. Yes, she is often reckless and does not always make the best decisions considering that someone wants her dead or seriously out of commission, I do not see her as a Lucy Recardo. She seems very kind, and interested in making the "bad guys" pay the time for the crime. I found her book to be a fun read and of course, enjoyable because I love flowers! Hope you take a chance on a new author.

This is the first in the Flower Shop Mysteries. I plan to read them all.

From Fantastic Fiction.com:
Abby Knight is the proud owner of her hometown flower shop, but a new low-cost competitor is killing her profits-and a black SUV just rammed her vintage Corvette in a hit-and-run. She's determined to track down the driver, but when the trail turns deadly, the next flower arrangement might be for her own funeral.

Cute, campy, cozy mystery. Abby is a law school drop out now flower shop owner and self proclaimed black sheep of her family. She has aa 'problem' with meddling in other people's personal problems and tends to get herself in hot water. This time is no exception. While parking her car she thinks she witnesses a murderer escape a crime. Chaos ensues. Fun characters. Fun romance possibility. Light mystery with plenty of stuff going on to keep you interested. If you like Bubbles you'll like Abby.

Fun book for a first in a series and I will definitely read the next! The characters are quirky and make me laugh! Simon, the cat -- well you have to be a cat owner to understand how true to form he is! The books remind me a little of the Janet Evanovich number books and I am glad to find another author I can read to get a fast fix of fun and mayhem with a little dose of hunkiness mixed in (aka Marco!) When I found this series at Half Price books I only picked up a couple of the books to be sure I liked them so I have already found the rest on PBS so am looking forward to reading the entire series.

Title: Mum's the Word
Author: Kate Collins
ISBN: 0451213505/Signet
Protagonist: Abby Knight, owner of Bloomers, a flower shop
Setting: present-day; New Chapel, a small northwest Indiana college town
Series: #1 Flower Shop Mysteries
Rating: DNF

First Line: Most people hate Mondays.

Abby Knight, daughter of an ex-cop and a social-climbing mother, has flunked out of law school and invested the rest of her savings in a flower shop called Bloomers in her hometown in northwestern Indiana. Bright one Monday morning, she travels to work in her beloved 1960 banana yellow Corvette and parks it within view of Bloomers. Seconds later, a man runs out of an alley, jumps into his SUV, fires it up and rams right into the front end of Abby's 'vette. Shortly after that, she learns that a young man was murdered in an apartment down the same alley the man came running out. "I saw the murderer!" Abby shouts. (Hey, it can happen. My mother saw bank robbers changing cars in a parking lot across the street from the feed store where she was working once.) Abby goes to the police and is less than satisfied with their response. This being one of those cozy mysteries, you know that she's not going to be able to keep out of the investigation.

I thought I was in the mood for a cozy. Evidently it wasn't this one. By page 69 when I learned where the murder victim worked, I had it all figured out. Since none of the characters were grabbing me at the time, I flipped to the end of the book to see if my powers of deduction were still intact. They are. Abby may be right down someone else's alley, but she wasn't in mine.
