This is my first "cozy mystery". My Mom reads cozies liked Murder She Wrote, Murder She Baked, etc.... so I figured I'd start out with Murder She Barked! I expected cheesy, silly, adorable, goofy, quaint, quirky.... not because I actually know anything about cozies but because I just assumed that's what defined a cozy. Well, it was all of that and more! A giant leap away from the heavy textbooks and creepy thrillers I've been reading lately so needless to say, I enjoyed the book very much. There are many likable characters including the animals and plenty to keep you entertained. I felt like every few pages involved a scream and people running but I like that!! I wish I could just move to Wagtail, VA with my three sweet Tzus, run my own little animal friendly shop, eat fabulous gourmet food, have all the characters as neighbors (even the bad ones), and enjoy all the adorable weirdness!! I loved it!! I'm looking forward to the sequel!! I also appreciated the complete lack of foul language and explicit sex scenes. A wonderfully clean "who done it"!! Many thanks to the Awesome Author!!

This brand series is really a bit different. I like the characters, location, & story line. It was really a good cozy mystery. Looking forward to the next one.

I couldn't even finish it. It seemed too silly. Things just fell weirdly into place, too many catastrophes all at once and I didn't think the characters were believable at all.
I really wanted to like it ....

Holly is called to her grandmothers Inn in Wagtail, VA. She is told to come right away. Before she even arrives to town she witnesses a crime. For Holly it is nice to be back to Wagtail were she has so many childhood memories but the town has changed and become a pet friendly village. This is good news for Holly since she just recently was adopted by both a dog and cat.
She learns that there has been an accident and that is why she has been called but hours later there is a murder and Holly must figure it out to keep her grandmother safe.
This is the first book I have read from this author. I was a little hesitant because it was called a Paws and Claws Mystery, I thought it was going to have talking animals. It did not and I really enjoyed the book. It kept me guessing till the end. It was very easy to read and the characters held their own. I hope as the series goes on, more characters will be introduced and she will develop her current characters further. A good start.
She does write a lot about the food the characters eat but it could be because she has another series, Domestic Diva Mysteries. There are recipes at the end of the book that add a nice touch.

Loved this! Great characters, human and pet alike. Looking forward to reading more of this series. Would love to have a real Wagtail for vacations.

Wagtail, VA. A small town who is totally 'animal-friendly'. Holly rushes to visit her grandmother, who owns the local inn, thinking she is ill. What she walks into is a lovely, quaint small town and two murders and mystery. I read a lot of cozies and I really enjoyed this one - the characters were more believable than in some cozies. First book in the Paws & Claws series. Enjoyable read.
I really liked this book! The setting, a pet friendly tourist town, is described so well that I actually found myself wanting to go there. The mystery is a good one and the story is fast paced, which I like- lots of suspects, clues, questions, etc to keep you guessing. I am looking forward to reading the next in this series.

Ohhhh, I am so in love with the town of "Wagtail". I enjoyed all of the characters, the descriptions of the streets in this town, the homes and gardens..I totally loved how everything is geared towards animals, our "fur babies", like the hotel, the pet shops, the treats and foods made specifically for the pets, I couldn't put this book down.
I wanted to crawl into the pages and come out standing in one of the rooms at the hotel with a chocolate on the pillow waiting for me. You will not be disappointed with this, I love Krista Davis. She is a Virginian lady like myself and really describes mountains, curvy roads, fog, stone homes and warm twilit streets perfectly well.

I really enjoyed this book because the mystery was so complex, you had no idea who did it. I get bored with simple mysteries that you guess who did it before the book is half over. This was the first book I've read by this author and was impressed. She described the animals perfectly. I will read the rest of this series.
