Jessie Arnold, the sled-dog racer, is back! This time, she tries to help out a stranger, whose story may not be what she claims.
I'm glad to see Arnold back in this story, but the plot was a little far-fetched and I spent most of the book thinking how I would never bring a complete stranger into my friends' home. The characters are great, though, and storyline does leave you guessing as to just who is the "bad guy".

This is a twisty mystery with a lot of red herrings, and (I have to admit) I didn't figure out all the clues before the author unraveled them for me.
There may have been a previous book or books with this main character; if so, they weren't necessary to enjoy the story.

nother good Jesse Arnold mystery. Maybe not quite as good as some, with less Alaska travelogue in this one.

A pretty good "closed room" murder mystery. The characters are isolated on a small island in Alaska for most of the story. The lead character, Jessie Arnold, continues in other books by this writer.
Mystery set in Alaska. At a weekend work party at an old lighthouse on the Alaskan Inside Passage, a dead body is discovered. It looks like an accident, but the killer is on the loose and the killing spree might not be over.
At loose ends because she is unable to race her dogs this season due to an injury, Jessie Arnold heads to Five Finger Light Island to help friends restore an old lighthouse. On the way to the island, Jessie meets Karen Emerson, who is on the run from a persistent stalker, and invites her along on the trip. Once on the island, Jessie's idyllic getaway turns deadly as a body is found, a woman disappears, and an extensive search of the tiny island fails to find her. Jessie and her companions realize they are on their own when they discover that all means of communicating with the outside world are either missing or destroyed. Alternating chapters from Jessie's and the stalker's points of view keep motives hidden and readers guessing as the plot moves briskly along.

Sue Henry is/was a professor at University of Alaska Anchorage. I lived in Anchorage for 7 years, and the Iditarod was very much in the news so this book and all of her books are thrilling to me. Love her writing.

I liked it, but figured out who the good guys and bad guys were right away. It was still fun; I was glad I'd read it, and might read a few more of hers.
