I had a hard time getting into this one. The beginning was rather boring, but once it got past the intial chapter it seemed to smooth out. Unfortunetly, that was an illusion. The author simply tried too hard to make this one feel cozy. Too many bad references to TV detectives, too much campiness. I gave up 1/2 way through. There are too many good books out there to waste time with one that isn't!

It doesn't matter whether or not you like ice skating, if you like a good clean murder/mystery, this is it!

Author has a hilarious sense of dry wit that kept me turning pages into the wee hours of the night to finish.

As a great fan of ice skating, I was really looking forward to reading this book. I managed to get to page 35 before changing my mind. It started off wonderfully. The author gives the MC, Bex Levy, a truly great sense of dry humor and at one point had me really laughing. Then the foul language took over. The language covered pretty much all the swear words I have ever heard. This is one thing I just don't like in a cozy mystery. This is just MHO, and I know it doesn't bother other folks. Then we get to the murder itself. By that time I was pitching it. I'm sorry about this, because it had the making of a good read. To me, if an author can't come up with better language than the constant use of foul words they should go back to their Thesaurus until they can find better.

The first book in the skating mystery series.

I liked the way the heroine was portrayed in this cozy. She is smart, funny, and tenacious.

Bex is a researcher for 24/7, who broadcasts the Ice skating championships. Controversy ensues when the Italian judge is the deciding factor in giving the gold medal to the unlikable Russian, Xenia Trubin, rather than the USA darling, Erin Simpson. It is widely felt that this judge cheated, and when an email with the final results is found in her purse, next to her dead body, Bex must find out who killed her in order to keep her job (that was the only part that I found totally hokie).
