Darcy O'Brien is a great author who gives a lot of details in his books. This was the first book I read of his, and it made me interested in the other books he has written. I couldn't believe the antics and brutality of the main character, Dr. John Dale Cavaness, but it also tells a tale of a family struggling to cope with loss and how they endured after such tragedy hit them.

I really enjoyed this book. Being originally from Harrisburg and knowing that Dr. Cavaness actually delivered my dad and uncle made this story even more moving to me. The things he did and were accused of doing were absolutely unbelievable at times. I recommend everyone reading this book.

This book was a quick read because it was so hard to put down. I love the history of Southern Illinois. My father is retired Sheriff in Central Illinois and he said that the tales about Southern Illinois are true. Very interesting!

Excellent! One of the best true crime books I've ever read! Kept my interest throughout and didn't get bogged down in boring courtroom drama.
