MURDER, SHE RODE is listed as the first Tink Elledge mystery. There's only one other from back in 2014 so I'm guessing the series ended at two. And that's too bad.

Tink Elledge's life is all about horses. She buys and sells horses, breeds horses, shows horses, and above all competes in 3-day eventing - tough for both the horse and rider. Then a fall injures her and her husband extracts a promise she won't ride in the next big competition. It's frustrating her to no end to watch talented rider Alex train on her horse - but someone's got to ride him or Tink loses the entry money.

When a truck fire claims the life of a neighboring horseman (and the horse in the trailer), it's a sad thing. But then the rider that was also in the truck disappears. Tink starts to look for what's really going on. Why are the police suddenly asking about horse supplements? Is Alex involved? And how exactly does her husband Charlie make his money? Why won't he tell her?

I own horses, and I swear I know a lot of women who could be Tink. So real it made me smile through the whole book. I liked the tension between her and her husband. Lots of little comments about previous interesting events in Tink's life, and some good bits about horses in general as well as the eventing competition.

It's a horse mystery, so I suppose there has to be a mention of Dick Francis (grin). Menino is not Francis, but this is still a good book. Lots of action and complex relationships - I liked it.
