I love this author! There are many pluses to this book. Some of the Christmas things she comes up with are clever. The mystery was not very developed this time, no clues for the 1st 175 pages, but the story is moving well in those 175 pages. It was the last 100 that went wrong. I was disappointed in the reveal, and the ending. Having said that I cant wait till the next book to see what happens in Josie's life.

I was very disappointed in this book. I rushed to the store over the holidays since I really like the Mystery Shopper series, but when I started reading... Josie is angsty and guilt-ridden and Amelia is suddenly a horrible, nightmare child. The book was not fun and certainly not light as was the rest of the series. It might not have been so bad, but I had such high expectations based on how much I like the rest of the series.

I love Elaine Viets, especially the Dead End Job series, but I am sorry to say I didn't really like this book. There is barely any mystery in the first 100 pages- it's all about her daughter's father showing up. Then there are all sorts of flashbacks about he and Josie throughout the entire book that have no relevance. The mystery plot was OK, but the end was rather silly. Very disappointed this time.

Mystery shopper Josie Marcus doesnt get the appeal of the year-round Christmas shop. But when three such holiday houses pop up within two blocks, shes assigned to rate them anonymously.
Easy enough, Josie thinks, until she realizes that shoppers at one store are finding a strangeeven deadlysecret ingredient in their holiday cake. And Josie must get to the bottom of it all before someone else becomes a Christmas spirit.
