Murder at the War is a fascinating look at the Society for Creative Anachronism, particular how a group of people can become entirely involved in a different culture and actually think and react like people in that culture would think and react. NOTE: This is the same book as Pulver's Peter and Kori Brichter book Knight Fall. It is somewhat helpful to read other novels in the series before this one so that the 'mundane' (everyday) identities and personalities of the main characters are known to the reader, but the book can be enjoyed on its own and does make a good 'teaser' for the rest of the series. In fact, Ms. Pulver wrote this one first, then "The Unforgiving Minutes" which chronicles how Detective Brichter met his future wife.

Ms. Pulver also writes under the pseudonymns Monica Ferris (mysteries involving needlework in Minnesota) and Margaret Fraser (medieval mysteries with a nun detective).
