When actor Richard Willard was accused of hiring an assassin to bring the curtain on his estranged wife, Anthony Maitland was brought in for the defense. Unfortunately, Willard had a powerful motive... and had been seen with the hit man shortly before the murder.
But Maitland rarely accepted the obvious and before long the plot thickened-with evidence of a disputed inheritance, a scandelous love affair, and a nasty hunger for revenge-all pointing to the least likely suspect of all!

Very nice British whodunnit, although it would have been much easier and more enjoyable had I read the previous books in the series. There are quite a few mentions of cases and characters which bear heavily on the sleuth's actions. If you've read any of the previous books, you'll probably enjoy this one!
