Another achievement for E. L. Konigsburg! As I've mentioned in other reviews, she is well-deserving of her Newberry Award. I listened to this book on CD with my pre-teen daughter - we both loved it! Konigsburg has a knack for getting inside the head of pre-teen characters - the boys are believable, lovable and truly heroes without ever becoming outrageous. I look forward to reading the book. I love to listen to books but I don't retain them, or "lose myself" in them unless I read them on my own. I'm hoping I will find it easier to follow the twists of fate that link Amadeo and Mrs. Zender by reading it. (I had to listen three times to get the twists straight in my head.)

Tackles a mystery about the theft of European art masterpieces by Nazis during World War II, the Holocaust destruction of both Jews and homosexuals, and the flight of some of the same Nazis to the United States after the end the war - but through the eyes of two boys helping to dismantle the home of an elderly and eccentric former star opera singer.

Well-written, as are all the books by this multiple Newbery author - although I was a little put-off by some of her asides relating to the personal foibles of some of her characters.
