Thiis a great mystery. Bessie coulters dad whisks her from their North Carolina Farm to Harlem , NY in 1928. He leaves Mama behind.!2 year old Bessie is suspicious and follows her dad to the Harlem Renaissance. He leaves Bessie for days with his sister and Bessie suspects her dad is having an affair with another woman.
