While this may not be my usual type of reading as of now, it is likely that Peter Straub will join my ever-growing list of "must read" authors.
The characters are different yet totally believable. The locals are strange to me but again, totally believable and finely drawn.
I felt almost as if I could smell the bad smells, see the beautiful things, hear the people talk!
I highly recommend this book to all who can deal with more than the lightest of reading.

Mystery is so rich and masterfully plotted and constructed, and so entertaining that it would be unfair to reveal the story. Here we have a mystery of astonishing complexity and depth with an astonishing solution and breathtaking climax. We also have three-dimensional characters , a moving love story, and a wonderful evocation of the milieu of the very rich, both in the Caribbean and in Wisconsin. The author is not only investigating two fictional crimes, he is also after the greatest mystery of all: the mystery of life and death.
