Helpful Score: 1
It's getting harder to give Patterson good reviews with these co-writers, I think they are writing most of the stories and they aren't turning out very good.
There are too many storylines going on--1. a robbery/murder(which is suppose to be the main story but gets kind of lost in between the other stories) 2. thefts at hospitals of large expensive equipment(but doesn't get a lot of attention) 3. Kylie's marriage to her addict husband(gets kind of irritating and boring 4. Zach having relationship problems with his girlfriend(and by halfway in the book I just didn't care)
There is nothing special or suspenseful about this book, you'll read a few chapters then put it down and do something else and pick it up later, it really doesn't grab you enough to read it at one sitting.

I totally enjoy this Patterson Series with exciting and thrilling cases assigned to NYPD Red.
I like the two main Detective partners and former lovers, Kylie and Zack, Makes for interesting banter, but they do have flaws that agitate me. Kylie left Zack hanging when she married her junkie ex boyfriend, and is constantly looking for him in some flop house or bar. Then he went missing and Kylie was besides herself.
On the other hand, Zack is living with his girlfriend psychologist and it is not working out well. They love each other, but she can't stand him coming home late because of his helping Kylie and, well, just because he's a cop. Hunky Zack sounds like a lovesick teen as he's always worrying about what Cheryl will say when he's late for dinner! Yuck!! Wake up; we're grown ups here!
I do recemmend this series for mystery fans.

Detectives Zack Jordan and Kylie MacDonald work in the elite task forced assigned to protect the rich, the famous, and the connected. Jordan and MacDonald are the best of the best.
It's another fancy movie premiere when a starlet, dripping in diamonds on loan, is the target of a theft and winds of dead. There are many, many witnesses, but no suspects.
At the same time hospitals all over the city are reporting thefts ... not drugs, but medical equipment ... equipment that costs millions of dollars. The new mayor wants NYPD Red to investigate on the sly.. in other words, keep it out of the newspapers so the mayor isn't embarrassed.
And while trying to catch all the bad guys, their personal lives seem to be falling apart. Kylie's husband is a drug addict. He has walked out of rehab and is determined to live the life he wants ... until it kills him. Kylie is trying to find him before he winds up dead in some dirty alley.
Zach's girlfriend has moved in with him on a trial basis ... and it's not working the way they both expected. He's working night and day ... and his partner just happens to be an old fling ... and the girlfriend is getting a little tired of broken dates and being alone.
This reads fine as a stand-alone, but I would highly recommend reading them in order. This is a typical Patterson book ... short chapters, easy reading.
Zack and Kylie are great characters. I love how they interact with each other ... lots of humor and loyalty. Their personal lives might be a mess, but they have each others' backs.
