This is a tale of secrets, lies and deceptions. In 1988 when Jocelyn Holt's Nanny, Hannah, left she was 7 years old and she was devastated. 30 years later she returns home with her daughter, Ruby, to confront her troubled relationship with her mother. When human remains are accidentally uncovered in a lake on the estate, Jo begins to question everything she thought she knew. An unexpected visitor knocks on the door and Jo must uncover who her nanny really was, why she left, and if she can trust her own mother. This book had a slow start but the plot had twists which held my interest. The characters were unlikeable and hard to connect with. The ending was a bit rushed, so all in all, I would say it's an ok book but not one of Macmillan's best. I have read all of her books and have enjoyed them so I do look forward to her next book, The Long Weekend, March 2022.
