Sojourner Truth, who never learned to read or write, told the story of her life to a friend, Olive Gilbert, and then another friend, William Garrison, published it. The book provides an inside look into the life of the famous activist and spiritual leader. Its success enabled her to buy a home. While a very slim volume, it is a historical artifact not to be missed.
