I think you need a mind more into the psychology of things to really appreciate this book. I found it slow going: although the reviews of it say things like, "McBride artfully evokes the brilliant beauty and the strange, brooding darkness that often dwell together in the Irish soul."

I usually find something to like about every book I read. However, I didn't like anything about this book. I found it darkly disturbing and way beyond belief. It wasn't even remotely interesting. It was a struggle to complete reading it. Obviously, others like it. It's just not my "cup" of book.

Wow. I did enjoy this book, but it was QUITE unsettling... disturbing, even. I just didn't see the end coming at all. While not an uplifting book, it does have moments of beauty. The shock of the end really overshadowed the majority of the book. The haunting quality of it is really lingering... and I have no idea of what I will read next. I did really like it, even if it was so shockingly upsetting.
