She gained most of her inspiration from such writers as Toni Morrison, James Baldwin, Alice Walker, Zora Neale Hurston, Langston Hughes, Richard Wright, Maya Angelou, Edgar Allan Poe, Alex Haley, Countee Cullen, and Shakespeare. These writers had the highest influence on her and over time she branched out to read as many books as possible to become advanced in writing and reading. An early high school graduate, attending trade school, college, and working since her early childhood, she gained a resilient work ethic and was an accomplished student.
