Another very good read by David Rosenfelt. You just have to love Andy Carpenter. I just wish Rosenfelt would write more. It helps to read the books in order.

This book was a lot of fun! I really enjoy this series! And I am very satisfied with the ending. The mystery was great (as usual) and the characters were as fun to read about as ever. The only disappointing thing, is that I will have to wait a whole year before the next installment of Andy Carpenter's adventures!

This is the latest in the Andy Carpenter series (#7). It is a legal thriller that is spiced with humor all the way through.

This is the third book that I have read by David Rosenfelt. I continue to thoroughly enjoy his style of writing, sense of humor, love for animals incorporated into his storyline, and his ability to sustain a suspenseful plot/storyline. I look forward to reading more!

If you haven't read this series yet then start at the beginning so you will know how Andy got his millions, then from there it's how he got this cast of characters together and in Laurie's instance, lover. Centering around a dog of some kind Andy is a lawyer that ends up with the most bazaar cases even though he doesn't need the work usually a Judge assigns his cases. So get on the band wagon and read this series!

Andy Carpenter is a dog-loving multi-millionaire defense attorney in my hometown of Paterson, New Jersey. He has a sarcastic wit and crime-solving buddies that include his long-distance girlfriend, his partner attorney who dispenses free legal aid from a Laundromat, a computer hacker, a big, quiet, scary dude named Marcus, an FBI-agent, a reporter at the local paper, a local cop and a couple who run a local dog rescue organization. Throw in a crotchety judge named "Hatchet" who starts this story in motion by summoning Andy to chambers to assign him the responsibility of representing a puppy in a custody battle between the wife and son of the puppy's murdered owner.

Hatchet: "I assume you have a satisfactory place to keep you client?"
Andy: "My client?"
He nods. "The dog. You will retain possession of him until the issue is resolved."
"I'm representing a dog in a custody fight? Is that what you're asking me to do?"
"I wouldn't categorize it as 'asking,'" he says.
"I already have a dog, Your Honor."
"And now you have two."

The faced-paced story moves quickly from there through another couple of murders, an attempted murder that leaves Andy's girlfriend seriously injured, Andy's investigation and the concluding courtroom drama.

Anyone who loves who-done-its, courtroom scenes and strategies and dogs should enjoy this book (and the entire series). The named places in Paterson is a bonus for me as I try to remember and visualize them.

If you like the Andy Carpenter character, this is his typical humor within a complicated mystery. I enjoy all the characters in this series and they are all well paced pretty quick reads.

Good mystery that moves along quickly. Love the dog involvement and the Andy Carpenter character. Can read his books out of order and still develop a connection to the character. Keeps you guessing to the end. Intend to read more of them.

This book is even better than the 6 preceeding it, if that's at all possible. Great story - written with humor, wit, and throw in some love interest, mystery and intrigue...fabulous read!

David Rosenfelt has a devious mind and a wicked sense of humor. His plots are intricate and you never know how they will end. He leads you down one path after another just to find out that you may have known the answer all along. I enjoy Andy Campbell. He has a great sense of humor, even when, or maybe especially when, he is laughing at himself. I love his girlfriend Laurie who can read him like a book. I love his dog, Tara the Golden Retriever. I love the rest of the quirky characters (especially Marcus.) I love how David Rosenfelt loves dogs. I'm on to the next book!

Some of my favorite secondary characters are showcased in NEW TRICKS and the book is more fun for their inclusion. Judge Hatchet loves to cut Andy down to size and Marcus keeps up his wild banter with Andy throughout the case. Unfortunately, Marcus gets a bit heavy-handed with a murder suspect and the next time we hear of the said suspect, he's been pulled out of a body of water. It's just another day in Paradise (Andy-style).

This case is actually about a young man who has been accused of killing his father and stepmother. His father was worth about 1/2 billion dollars; he was the founder of a progressive pharmaceutical company. The FBI is involved, but they aren't talking.

There's a second case and Andy is directly involved in this one too. Hatchet makes Andy take the dead man's show dog, pending a hearing on who should be given the dog permanently -- the son (currently accused of his father's murder) or a friend/competitor, who raises Andy's hackles.

The case starts out looking like there can be no one else guilty but the son. Slowly, Andy-and-company chip away at the darkness until a new suspect becomes clear. Now, if Andy can make the muddy water clear for the jury.

Book 7 in the series

This one had too many characters to pin it on but if you paid close attention, you know who did it. It took Andy till the last chapter to figure it out.
Very good series and easy to read.
