Kevin Quinn, a 50 year old editor, in mid-life crisis, travels to Austin, Texas from Ann Arbor, Michigan for a job interview. He does this secretly - no one from home knows where he's going. There is a lot going on in his head; his frustrations, self-absorptions, reflections of his past, obsessions, etc. So much so, in fact, that there were times I wanted to yell at him to SHUT UP! The last section (Part 3) grabbed me to the very end... I couldn't put the book down, my heart was racing. Incredibly intense. This book was both witty and tragic. It takes place in just one day and I must say, it blew me away.
Enjoyed the Austin setting as I live here, but was ultimately dissatisfied with this vaguely misogynistic novel.
This was an unusual book in that the writer's style is different from the norm. I have to say I liked it, but it only really took off about halfway through the book. But if you can stick with it, it's worth it in the end. I'd recommend it.
