I will preface this review with the fact that I don't usually read romance books.
This book was like watching a soap opera. It was highly entertaining and focused on two rival families in Texas. Its main story was a trial of Bomber Brown, a trial which Kate's father is presiding. Kate is one of the main characters who spends the book trying to concoct a plan to get her star crossed parents together. This plan was easier once Joss, her father's fiance, was in the arms of her uncle.
The author did a nice job making sure that even though this book is part of the series, I was able to understand what had happened in the past and was able to enjoy the story.

Worst book I've read this year.
Too many characters in one short story and the author did not get me to care about any of them like we could in a well-written saga.
Too many different main plots. The beginning plot belonged in a regency romance as it was too far-fetched for 2005 - the ambassador's daughter jumps in a Mercedes vehicle and drives over to a rich man's ranch. Once there she offers herself in exchange for the rich man to agree not to hurt her fiance's company any more. Please. She could have at least driven over in a Mustang since it was in Texas...

would like to read more books by joan johnston. was an interesting story. but i think a person needs to read the previous books on this family of the Blackthorne to fully understand the back ground. I guess I am a series reader because i find myself wondering how the charcters involved to this book.
