This is a rollicking tale of a dysfunctional family, a group of gay men, a convent of elderly nuns, and two very different church congregations all set in a forgotten town in upstate New York. It is both funny and touching in its description of the interactions and strange events that happen in the fall of 1999. An enjoyable and well written read.
This book was somewhat a departure from Maguire's previous books as it wasn't an interesting take on a well-known story line (that I'm aware of). It's a weird story with a little darkness, but I still enjoyed it.
This is not one of Maguire's best by any means. It drags and I finally gave up about halfway through it and decided there were other things I'd rather be reading.
